WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
KPC Power needs an experienced
PROTECTION & CONTROL SPECIALIST
(ON-SITE) for our growing business.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ability to read and interpret single line diagrams, logic diagrams, and wiring/control schematics.
- Perform testing, calibration and commissioning of electromechanical and microprocessor relays.
- Perform testing and maintenance of various substation equipment including but not limited to Switches, Fuses, Power Transformers, CT/VT, Cabling/Bus, Lightning Arrestors, Circuit Breakers, Relays, and RTUs.
- Execute function tests.
- Conduct site investigations as needed. Troubleshooting Protection & Control circuitry. Review and analyze previous engineering data relative to engineering design and recommend action.
- Manage the preparation of technical specifications for new and replacement equipment.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- Strong understanding of wiring prints, electrical schematics, and system maps.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effectively communicate both orally and in writing with demonstrated ability to complete relevant paperwork, reports, and logbooks.
- Must maintain a strong safety culture through demonstrated knowledge of and compliance with all relevant safety rules, policies, work procedures and legislation.
- Knowledge of substation protective relay control systems and SCADA/Automation, installation, testing and troubleshooting; an equivalent combination of education may substitute experience.
- Require knowledge of three phase power calculations and vector analysis.
- Knowledge of Omicron relay testing software is an asset.
- Knowledge of relay programming software; AcSELerator Quickset, GE Enervista UR, Schneider Easergy Studio is an asset.
- Must be able to demonstrate SAFE electrical troubleshooting skills using basic and advanced test equipment.
- Capable to work in a physically demanding environment that includes heavy lifting, working at heights/climbing ladders, stretching and pulling, working in aerial work trucks, working in confined spaces
, in proximity to high voltage energized lines, and in extreme weather conditions, yearround.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of a 3 year Electrical Technologist or 4 year Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years experience
