Nutreco is hiringa Health and Safety Manager to be based out of our West Region.

This position will be responsible for overseeing all health and safety functions for locations in Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia and will work in partnership with our Operations teams.


The HSE Manager is responsible for driving the Zero incident and Zero waste culture within the business, including assurance that HSE delivery is in accordance with the government's, the industry's and Nutreco's global HSE management systems and standards.

The HSE Manager is responsible for all activities and education related to health and safety, legislation.

Providing guidance to our leadership teams to adopt and implement measures to reflect the priority and focus we have on health and safety.

As such, you are the point of contact and reference for HSE for all Nutreco's sites within the scope of responsibility in Western Canada, develops and manages the HSE plans for the Business, which aim at deployment, coordination, implementation, monitoring and improvement of HSE policies and standards in order to minimize risks and improve HSE performance for the organization.

The HSE Manager leads by example and continuously manages HSE improvement and compliance within the region by leading the cultural change to a Zero Incident and Zero Waste mind-set.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES


Your experience is critical to manage the Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) function to create and sustain a productive work culture and safe work environment and to drive the Zero incident and Zero waste culture within the business.

You will work as a partner and an ally with the Operations teams in the region.

Leadership and People Management:Build trust and confidence and collaboration with the HSE team & OPCO representation.

  • Model safety behavior and actively reinforce the creation of a safe behavioral culture.
  • Ensure all relevant training programs, introduction, and instruction programs on HSE are deployed and executed.
  • Ensure the highest levels of key competencies and identify improvement areas to accelerate implementation of Zero harm and Zero waste mindset.
  • Align the HSE strategy and support the local management in developing the regional HSE strategic roadmaps and objectives.

Risk management:Plan, prepare and conduct internal safety inspections and assessments and initiate / monitor corrective actions based on findings and occurrence investigations.

Reporting & Analysis:Analyse the relevant lagging and leading indicators to take or recommend appropriate actions and deliver regular HSE performance reports to Regional and Global Management.

Projects:Provide support to major projects, mergers and acquisition, or major modifications. Participate in CAPEX projects to ensure HSE standards are included throughout all project phases and fully considered in any design


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A degree/diploma in Health and Safety. Registered as Canadian registered safety professional (CRSP)
  • At least 8 years of strong environmental and or safety experience in manufacturing operations in a medium to large organization.

Preferred qualification:


  • Chartered Member of IOSH / Senior Safety Specialist (HVK) or equivalent. ISO 45001 knowledge and experience.
  • Strong Leadership and a passion for Safety cultural support in an organization
  • Strong sense of accountability, responsibility, and collaboration
  • A strategic business sense, ability to work with a collaborative team orientation style
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure, manage priorities, and multitask
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
