Laboratory Analyst - Bioassay

Location:
Edmonton, Alberta


Job Overview and Responsibilities:


Primary responsibilities include the following (but are not limited to):

  • Maintain organism cultures. Assist with organism culture troubleshooting.
  • Perform calibration and routine maintenance of instrumentation in accordance with WIs. Assist with trouble shooting equipment issues.
  • Review LIMS summary report to plan and prioritize daily work to accommodate due dates, rush requests, and hold times.
  • Prepare reagents and standards as per SOPs and WIs
  • Prepare and analyze test samples in accordance with SOPs
  • Provide preliminary client updates, as required
  • Keep accurate records for all work
  • Inform Supervisor if SOP requires clarification or updates
  • Participate in internal/external audits, and contribute to MIAs, NSCs, investigations/corrective actions, when requested
  • Enter and verify data including TOXELN reporting
  • All other responsibilities as assigned

Is there a mutual fit? You ideally have:

  • A University Degree or a College Diploma in Sciences: biology, ecotoxicology or related field with special emphasis in the discipline of toxicity
  • Two (2) years related ecotoxicology or biology laboratory experience is an asset
  • Ability to keep accurate records in order to comply within GLP standards
  • Selfdirected and proven ability to organize, execute plans and objectives
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) as well as outstanding computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)
  • A strong ability to work independently as well as engage others when required in escalation of concerns to meet the client needs or to best manage client disappointments
  • Energetic and keen personality with a positive outlook who thrives in a fastpaced environment where multitasking, prioritizing and adapting to changes are required

Valid class 5 drivers license with less than 6 demerits

Experience:

  • Minimum Education: Diploma in related field (required)
  • 2 years of experience in related field (preferred)

Schedule:

  • Shift Work
  • Willing to work overtime when necessary (including weekends)
