As a GIS Specialist, you will assist the Geospatial Business Solutions area in providing the Corporation with GIS (Geographical Information System) technology solutions


Responsibilities include:

Technology Research:

  • Evaluate how GIS technology can best be leveraged to support the Corporation's many service lines. This includes data lifecycle, advanced query and analysis, and visualization.
  • Evaluate GIS technology and its integration with current business processes.
  • Investigate emerging GIS technologies to determine how they can benefit the Corporation.
  • Develop and recommend standards and best practices to for the Corporation's GIS user base.

Solution Support:

  • Collaborate with project managers, programmers, developers, and spatial data maintainers to develop and implement the latest GIS data and/or technology products and solutions.
  • Identify specific business requirements through needs assessment, gathering supporting documentation and researching current business practices.

Technology Deployment:

  • Develop and implement processes for the distribution and implementation of GIS technology and inform the Corporation of its availability and use.
  • Develop and maintain processes for tracking and logging systemwide deployments and utilization.

GIS Training and Help Desk:

  • Promote the understanding of GIS technology by assisting the GIS Training Coordinator with the delivery of training for the Corporation.
  • Determine strategies to develop and enhance GIS technology skills of City staff by preparing and developing product support and presentation materials.
  • Investigation of GIS technology issues reported though the corporate remedy intake system and determine solutions.

Qualifications
***- A completed 2 year diploma in a GIS related field and at least 5 years of related experience; OR

  • A degree in GIS, Planning, Engineering, Geomatics, Computer Science or a related field and at least 3 years of related experience.
  • Proficiency with the ESRI ArcGIS technology suite including: ArcGIS Enterprise Portal, ArcGIS Online (AGOL), ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ESRI Field Mobility tools, WebApp/Experience Builder, Python, Arcade and Feature Manipulation Engine (FME).
  • Experience with Oracle and SQL databases, geodatabase design will be considered assets.
  • Experience with CAD software such as MicroStation and/or AutoCAD will be considered assets.
  • Experience with scenario testing and visualization using ArcUrban, CityEngine, and other 3D software will be considered assets.
  • Success in this position requires excellent communication, organizational and problemsolving skills.
