The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) practices the culturally responsive pedagogy approach in providing an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe and healthy education that supports learning and success both personally and academically to the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties, an area of 5,250 square kilometres and a total of 23 schools.

Qualifications:


  • Degree or concentration in Instructional Leadership
  • Degree or concentration of Professional Development in Social Emotional Learning
  • P12 endorsement

Experience:


  • Coaching/Mentor experience
  • Social Emotional program experience
  • Instructional leadership experience
  • Data collection and analysis experience

Task Dimensions:


  • The primary focus of this position will be the implementation and strengthening of Social Emotional Learning practices at Tier 1 or classroom level, supporting an MTSS framework. This includes supporting classroom teachers in a coaching model along with providing other foundational professional development.

This includes:

assisting with the preparation of sample lessons and support materials for classroom teachers along with modelling best practices and co-teaching lessons, gradually releasing responsibility to classroom teachers.


  • The expectation, as outlined in the Inclusive Education policy, is supporting teachers/schools four days a week and one day a week focused on regional support, as required.
  • Regional support includes, but is not limited to:
  • Providing professional development for staff working with students in a Tier 2 and Tier 3 capacity.
  • Instructional Leadership: supporting the implementation of the any 'Social Emotional Learning goals' as outlined in the South Shore Regional Centre for Education student success plan.
  • Provide support to School based administration with 'student well being goals' within the schools 'student success plans'.
  • Other task dimensions may include:
  • Coordinate all social emotional learning opportunities within the SSRCE.
  • Knowledge in and able to articulate the impact social emotional learning has on student achievement.
  • Lead the development of a regional strategy to promote social emotional learning for all South Shore Regional Centre for Education students.
  • Collect Social Emotional Learning/Student well being data
  • Participate in regional 'Community of Schools' meetings, when appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties as appropriate to support overarching SSRCE Education Team and Department of Education initiatives.
