POSITION OVERVIEW (Under Review)
You will conduct a range of technical, inspectional and regulatory work in the inspection of building construction, repair and alteration to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, bylaws, and municipal guidelines.
This position also carries out regulatory work in the inspection of building construction, repair and alteration to ensure compliance and provides information and assistance to the public on a variety of matters related to the work.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school graduation supplemented by successful completion of a plumbing trade apprenticeship plus considerable experience as a journeyman and gas fitter; OR an equivalent combination of training, education and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in installing plumbing as related to the work performed
- Thorough knowledge of the bylaws, acts, codes, standards and regulations related to all types of building construction.
- Sound knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in building construction.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and related material, recognize technical requirements and suggest changes or corrections, as required.
- Ability to recognize faulty or substandard construction and suggest corrections or changes as needed.
- Ability to establish and maintain liaison with a variety of internal and external contacts, to provide information and assistance to the public on matters related to the work, and enforces all regulations, codes, bylaws, municipal controls, and ordinances tactfully and firmly with sound judgement.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, records, correspondence and other data related to the work manually or using a computer terminal.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public.
LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES
- Certificate of Qualification in Plumbing for the Province of British Columbia
- Class B Gas Fitters License with Electrical Endorsement for the Province of British Columbia
- Certificate of Competency as a Gas Inspector
- Cross Connection Control Certificate
- Level I or II Plumbing requirements of the Building Officials Association of BC
- Class 5 Driver's Licence valid in the Province of British Columbia.
