Position Mandate


Reporting to the Communications Advisor, the Communications Assistant will be responsible for supporting external relations content creation, social media strategy, media relations, event coordination, and special projects.

You will be provided mentorship and feedback on marketing campaigns, media relations, grant writing, social media strategy, web design, video creation, and internal relations best practices with room to pursue projects that fit your interests and skill set.

This is a hybrid position with 30% of your time spent supporting our building operations team to create a comprehensive operations manual as well as filing and organizational support.

This is a full time position for the summer of 2023 with potential for part-time (10hrs/week) continued communications support employment throughout the following year.


Duties and Responsibilities
Working with other members of the Communications Advisor, the Communications Assistant is responsible for the following:

Communications

  • Writing a variety of materials, including key messages, speeches, web content, social media content, and newsletters
  • Assist in developing HomeSpace's social media strategy and event schedule
  • Graphic design projects such as flyers, poster, and digital infographics.
  • Developing collateral materials for events, special projects such as ground breakings and building openings, advocacy campaigns, and fundraisers (ie: videos, photos, media releases etc)
  • Coordinating community engagement events, such as open houses and fundraisers and develop associated content
  • Introduce and formulate new communications strategies to meet and exceed HomeSpace strategic plan goals.
  • Partnering with HomeSpace staff to develop event plans, coordinate events
  • Partnering with HomeSpace staff to manage donor relations
  • Develop an uptodate media list for local reporters/anchors/hosts/talk shows
  • Organize communications digital resources and archives

Building Operations

  • Support building operations department to develop a comprehensive building operations manual including gathering photos, floorplans, and descriptions of buildings operational equipment and safety information

Qualifications
Education

  • Studying communications, marketing, journalism, broadcast media studies, information design, public relations, social work or related field
Experience

  • Technologically adept including working knowledge of Microsoft office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Excellent written communication skills with experience in a professional environment an asset
  • Knowledge in online communications and social media
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong visual communications/design skills
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Suite an asset (Premiere Pro, Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • A demonstrated ability to work autonomously and independently, but is also an open and collaborative team member willing to share information, knowledge and experience
  • A demonstrated ability to accept feedback and interest in learning new skills
