Development Coordinator in Edmonton.


Reporting to the Senior Director of Development & Government Relations, the Development Coordinator is responsible for identifying and qualifying prospective donors, cultivating positive relationships and directly securing support from donors (corporate, individual, church, association) who are capable of making gifts of $1,000 or more.

Maintaining a minimum of 100 accounts, this role requires strong relationship management and a passion for building internal and external relationships with the ultimate responsibility of raising funds for specific programs and needs of The Mustard Seed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Effectively communicate with Monthly donors and High-Value donors (defined as donors with cumulative annual giving over $1,000), enhancing their understanding of the values and activities of The Mustard Seed to serve people in need
  • Meet the expected revenue goal of $350k to $1million during the first year and increasing goals in subsequent years
  • Work with the Development team to identify donors of interest who could be considered for Major Gift cultivation
  • Proactively develop personal relationships with top 10% of High-Value donors through telephone conversations, personal meetings, cultivation events and correspondence
  • Schedule meetings and tours with donors
  • Report on the success of initiatives in your portfolio, and make recommendations with the goal of continuous improvement
  • Create queries and reports in sales_f_orce and review to ensure accuracy
  • Work with the Donor Relations team to ensure that gifts from special giving donors are coded correctly and that their information is kept up to date

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • A postsecondary degree or diploma
  • 1 to 5 years of experience in fundraising or a related field within the nonprofit sector
  • Relationshipbased sales experience is an asset
  • Ministry background considered an asset
  • A strong passion for helping people experiencing homelessness and poverty
  • High level of comfort overcoming rejection, probably developed through work experience in fundraising or sales
  • Very comfortable cultivating relationships over the phone
  • A strong team player who can work collaboratively or independently
  • Highly resultsoriented, and motivated to perform at a high level
  • Comfortable dealing with data and analytics
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office (in particular Excel and Word)
  • Experience using fundraising database software (Donor management software such as sales_f_orce preferred)
  • Membership with the Association of Fundraising Professionals is an asset

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Some weekends and evening work may be required.
  • Position located in Edmonton with occasional travel to surrounding cities.
  • Required to drive personal vehicle and/or Seed Vehicle
  • Office environment

Mental effort maybe considered moderate to extreme as 60% of the role is donor management and stewardship. Maintaining relationships and meeting revenue goals are required to be successful in the role. Attending and assisting with functions and events (20%) can also require both physical and mental efforts.
