POSITION MANDATE
Ships, receives, and records the movement of parts, supplies, materials, equipment to and from TPS.


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Shipping

  • Determines the method of shipment and arranges shipping with input from the appropriate project manager as required.
  • Prepares shipping documentation (e. g. bills of lading, client forms, shipping instructions).
  • Packages and prepares shipments, ensuring safety and security.
  • Oversees the loading and unloading of goods from trucks or other conveyances.
  • Corresponds with transportation companies, clients and project managers as required.
Receiving

  • Inspects and verifies incoming goods against invoices or other documents, records shortages and rejects damaged goods.
  • Unpacks, codes and routes goods to appropriate areas and/or advises appropriate parties of receipt of goods.
  • Materials will be placed on specific staging area as required to maintain control of project materials.
  • Maintains internal recordkeeping system.
General Shop Duties

  • Operates forklift, hand truck or other equipment to load, unload, transport and store goods.
  • Maintains a clean, tidy work area.
  • Conducts equipment inspections and performs basic maintenance.
  • Ensures that forklifts are operational and operated safely and securely.
  • Verifies fire extinguishers and ensures repairs when required.
  • Replenishes shipping supplies as required.
  • Common items are placed in inventory as directed.
  • Maintains stock levels of common consumables with consultation of other staff.
  • Performs basic office cleaning and maintenance.
  • Answers phones as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The position requires the completion of a high school diploma and a minimum of 1 year relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Possession of a valid forklift operation certificate is an asset.

  • Tasks are properly prioritized to ensure important pieces are addressed first.

  • Equipment and tools are safe and maintained.
  • Issues of concern or importance are communicated to the supervisor or manager in a timely manner.
  • Compliance with relevant policies, procedures, standards and practices, legislation and codes meets expectations.

JOB SCOPE
Performs assigned tasks in a manufacturing setting, using knowledge and skills focused on shipping and receiving processes and equipment (e.g. international shipping requirements, handling a forklift).

Acts as the department's first point of contact for shipping and receiving matters, and addresses or refers queries as appropriate.

Completes routine tasks that support the department's day-to-day operations, ensuring good relations with co-workers and effective communications where applicable.


EFFORT
Plans and prioritizes own workflow to complete a range of assignments with competing deadlines. Experiences occasional high volumes of work. Makes decisions on the sequence, method and speed to use when performing tasks. The tasks required are usually closely defined by established procedures and practices. Must emphasize relationships while juggling assigned tasks. Refers unusual or difficult circumstances to supervisors or manager.


WORKING CONDITIONS
The incumbent works on the shop floor. This position is physically demanding due to some heavy work.
