Controller, Group


The Controller, Group position is responsible for directing the accounting functions while monitoring and reporting the financial performance of the company.

Specific areas of responsibility normally include the development and maintenance of financial management systems; preparation of timely and accurate profit and loss, balance sheet and other standard and special management reports; and provide financial analysis and recommendation for management decision.

**Performance Expectations

  • Provide management with timely and relevant financial data to support management in understanding the financial performance of the Group Cost Centers and Holding Companies, and also support management in their strategic decision making.
  • Reporting of Group financial results with analysis and commentary on performance (ie Sales, Earnings, NCWC, Capex, etc) vs previous periods, budgets and/or forecasts.
  • Responsible for assisting in Mergers and Acquisitions: training and implementing Linamar systems related to finance. Responsible for providing onsite training and mentorship of newly acquired businesses. Available to travel when required to perform tasks related to acquisitions, as assigned by Director of Finance.
  • Identify financial trends providing recommendations to the business unit's management.
  • Ensure Government reporting is completed on a timely and efficient manner.
  • Provide management and the Board of Directors ("BOD") with timely and relevant consolidated financial data to support management and the BOD in understanding the financial performance of the consolidated company, and also support management and the BOD in their strategic decision making.
  • Reporting of consolidated financial results with analysis and commentary on performance (i.e. Sales, Earnings, NCWC, Capex, etc.) vs previous periods, budgets and/or forecasts.
  • Coordinate the preparation of the quarterly Financial Statements and Management's Discussion and Analysis.
  • Coordinate the external audit of the consolidated Financial Statements annually, including all global locations.
  • Ensure statutory financial obligations including audit, and other Government filings are completed on a timely and efficient manner.
  • Make recommendations for and maintain an adequate information system to measure consolidated financial and operational results.
  • Oversee the continuous improvement of Accounting and Financial Processes with the goal to achieve best practices and optimal output.
  • Evaluate the organizations critical business standards, identifying deficiencies and potential opportunities, and develop innovative and cost effective solutions for enhancing competitiveness.
  • Provide management with timely and relevant forecasting data to support management in its strategic decision making.
  • Provide management and the BOD with timely and relevant consolidated forecasts and budgets.
  • Provide value added support to management's strategic goals/objectives.
  • Prepare purchase price equation allocations for mergers/acquisitions.
  • Provide management with profitability reporting to support management's evaluation of meeting their strategic goals/objectives.
  • Train and develop employees within the Corporate Accounting, FPC System and Consolidations teams.
  • Ensure GOS compliance across the Corporate Accounting and Consolidation teams.
  • Ensure Linamar Accounting Manual compliance across the Corporate Accounting and Consolidation teams by setting the Standard, communicating the Standard, training the Standard, auditing the standard and holding employees accountable through evaluating to the standard.
  • Develop GOS Plays related to technical financial processes as required by management and maintain existing GOS Plays.
  • Develop and maintain technical Accounting Policies and Procedures.
  • Make recommendations regarding a system of internal control.
  • Ensure effective and efficient global financial planning and consolidation system and processes are designed and implemented to meet the needs of the business today and in the future.
  • Work effectively with internal and external partners.
  • Responsible for the effective ongoing maintenance, administration and end user support of the system.
  • Locate features of business and accounting processes in flowcharts.
  • Assess financial risks for accounting systems and business practices within company. Other duties assigned as needed.
**Credentials

  • Post-Secondary Education in Business Administration, Accounting or related financial field.
  • CPA or equivalent designation is needed.
  • Minimum five years management experience in related field.
  • Ability to interpret graphs displaying revenues, expenses, liabilities and assets.
