Indigenous Holistic Counsellor


The West Central Women's Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women and gender diverse people and their families in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg.

WCWRC is person centered and practices empowerment, inclusion, harm reduction, multi-level, and community economic development philosophies to support women and gender diverse people experiencing poverty, homelessness, mental illness, violence, substance use or participating in sex-trade work.

Position Summary:


Reporting to the Director of Restoring the Balance, the Indigenous Holistic Counsellor will bring a holistic lens to their work, focusing on the whole person— Spirit, Emotions, Mind, and Body.

The Indigenous Holistic Counsellor will provide a client-led experience that is rooted in Indigenous resilience, spirituality, harm reduction, trauma-informed, and strengths-based practices.


Salary Range:
$24-$27/hour, 6% vacation pay, plus a benefits package and matched RSP after 3 months


Time requirement: 37.5 hours per week

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Individual and Group Supports_

  • Provide individual counselling to women and gender diverse people who have been impacted by any form of violence
  • Provide a variety of healing approaches, including land based teachings, ceremony and culturally appropriate programming
  • Plan and facilitate closed group healing circles and workshops for women and gender diverse people
  • Empower women and gender diverse people to advocate for themselves and advocate on their behalf
  • Provide information, referrals and system navigation to individuals
  • Work collaborative with GBV, housing and settlement to provide coordinated service delivery

Reporting and Evaluation_

  • Maintain accurate and complete case notes for each participant
  • Maintain accurate tracking of group outcomes, as per funding agreements
  • Report on program outcomes to the Director of Restoring the Balance, as required by funding agreements
  • Meet regularly with external Clinical Supervisor to review case notes

Other_

  • Actively participate in WCWRC staff retreats, trainings and meetings
  • In conjunction with other WCWRC staff, provide ongoing informal support, referral and direction to participants using the Centre

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities sought_


Essential_:
_

  • Postsecondary degree in Counselling or the Social Services field, a combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience providing long term, short term or crisis counselling
  • Experience with the development, organization and facilitation of group programs
  • Must be able to work effectively crossculturally including with participants with English as their second language
  • Demonstrated understanding of working with marginalized communities, including an antioppression lens, as well as a clear understanding of the social determinants of health
  • Strong understanding of empowerment, harm reduction and trauma informed care philosophies
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiar with the use of Microsoft office and outlook
  • Professional and responsible with sensitive and confidential issues
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Selfmotivated, able to work with mínimal supervision

A clear criminal record check and child abuse registry is required due to the nature of the position.
