Prepare work by gathering project requirements and establishing priorities
Obtain and review tender documents from consultants, municipalities, construction associations, and online sources
Attend pre-bid meetings as required
Analyze drawings and specifications; identify and resolve discrepancies
Perform quantity take-offs and determine scope requirements
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing
Negotiate pricing and resolve cost discrepancies
Apply labour, material, equipment, and transportation costs to develop final estimates
Review estimates with the Estimating Manager prior to submission
Evaluate and recommend subcontractor and supplier awards
Ensure all contracts, quotes, and subcontracts are properly executed
Provide project handoff information to operations and leadership teams
Visit project sites to gather production feedback
Monitor job cost reports and analyze variances
Support training and mentorship of junior estimating staff
Prepare analytical and trend reports
Maintain industry knowledge through professional development and networking
Represent the organization at industry events
Provide field or operational support when required
Perform other duties as assigned
Recognized post-secondary diploma or equivalent experience
Valid driver's license
Construction Estimator Certification (CEC) — considered an asset
5+ years of estimating experience
Heavy civil construction experience required
Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
Solid understanding of heavy civil construction methods
Proficient computer skills
Excellent verbal and written communication
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to mentor and develop junior staff
High level of discretion with confidential information
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
