About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a
Temporary Full-time Translator - Reviser to join our dynamic
Communications team.


The
Communications team is responsible for managing all aspects of communication for Canadian Blood Services to both internal and external stakeholders.

This includes creating and disseminating messages, coordinating with various departments, managing public relations efforts, handling media relations, crafting visual and written content, and ensuring that communication strategies align with the organization's goals and values.


In this role, you will provide translation, revision, proofreading, and basic subtitling services of general documents as well as specialized documents (medical, scientific, technical, marketing, and communications) from English to French and occasionally from French to English.

You will conduct research, establish terminology, collaborate with other departments on special projects, and occasionally coordinate the work of the translation unit with clients.


Formula for success:


  • Leveraging your skills in translation, you will translate, with mínimal supervision and within the established timelines, a variety of texts intended for health professionals or the general public such as news releases, web pages, marketing material, technical reports, instructions, annual reports, medical letters, research summaries, etc. from English to French and occasionally from French to English.
  • Utilizing your expertise in revision, you will revise, with mínimal supervision and within the established timelines, texts translated by external and internal translators.
  • Implementing your knowledge in terminology management, you will establish French terminology and create terminology records in the database.
  • Employing your communication skills, you will liaise with internal clients and external service providers.
  • Drawing on your extensive experience in translation, you will act as a corporate resource for questions related to translation.

Desired education and skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Translation from a recognized academic institution (from English to French).
  • Certification from a recognized translators' association is an asset (OTTIAQ, ATIO, CTINB, etc.).
  • Minimum five years translation experience, preferably in the health sector or a related field.
  • One year of revision experience.
  • Superior organizational skills along with an attention to details are also required.
  • Excellent computer skills are necessary and proficiency with Microsoft Office and a translation software is a must. Experience with Logiterm and Flowfit is a definite asset.
  • Must be able to take direction from numerous people, work under time constraints, independently or within a team, handle numerous projects simultaneously and adjust to changing priorities.

What you can expect

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
  • If you are located outside of Ottawa, you may be expected to travel to our head office location in Ottawa Alta Vista Drive, quarterly for inperson team meetings when required.
