Position Overview:
_Reporting to the Sr.

Director of Community Outreach, this position provides front line housing focused assertive street outreach to youth and adults who are experiencing homelessness, at risk of homelessness, and those living in poverty.

The ReConnect Outreach Worker provides a range of services to decrease barriers to obtaining and maintaining appropriate housing.

These include assessment, service planning, skills teaching, resource identification, and follow-up while ensuring the YMCA Mission, Vision and Core Values and developmental Asset Philosophy.

Duties _- Responsible for practicing assertive street outreach and in-reach within the Greater Moncton Area. The ReConnect Outreach Worker is expected to meet people outside, making exposure to the weather an expectation of the position. _

  • Uses a psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery approach to engage clients in a process of determining the client's need/readiness for change._
  • Engage clients in identifying and achieving their goals; teach client's needed life skills in order to assist in the achievement of these goals_
  • In some cases, accompany clients to shelters, appointments or other safe places_
  • Advocate on behalf of individuals in accessing appropriate services such as health care and financial supports_
  • Make necessary referrals, as required (i.e. Income assistance, NB Housing, mental health etc.)_
  • Engage in crisis prevention/intervention with clients_
  • Build relationships/network with a variety of people and organizations including local area council of churches, government, business community, corporations and non profit agencies in order serve those in need, as well as the educate and mobilize the community._
  • Demonstrate leadership in a volunteer capacity relative to departmental fund development._

Skills & Qualifications

  • A criminal record check and vulnerable sector check are required as a condition of employment
  • Full time access to a personal vehicle for transportation and an up to date drivers license is required. Expections can be made.
  • Standard First Aid and Basic Rescuer CPR
  • Able to work flexible hours
  • Bilingualism an asset
  • Completion of college or university; Social Service Worker (SSW) Diploma, Community Support Worker (CSW) Diploma or Human Services Diploma, or related field or lived experience.

Job Types:
Full-time, Part-time


Pay:
$20.00-$22.00 per hour


Expected hours:
No more than 40 per week
