The Opportunity
We're currently seeking an OFA Level 1/2 Instructor to join our team in our Lower Mainland branches (specifically Richmond, New Westminster, and Port Moody).
You are a detail-oriented and organized individual who will be responsible for instructing courses as required and evaluating OFA 2 exams.
You will ensure that all duties and responsibilities are completed accurately and delivered with high quality, in a timely and professional manner.
This includes ensuring a quality image conveyed by St. John Ambulance BC & Yukon, at all times, and consistently and effectively communicating the St. John Ambulance vision.Responsibilities and Duties
- Represent St. John Ambulance in a positive and professional manner;
- Instruct OFA Level 1 and 2 courses as scheduled;
- Instruct other WorkSafeBC and St. John Ambulance Courses, as required;
- Evaluate St. John Ambulance OFA 1 and 2 exams;
- Promote the sale of St. John Ambulance training courses and products;
- Maintain and clean first aid classrooms, equipment, and supplies;
- Conduct mall displays/tradeshows, as required; and
- Travel to other branches, within the lower mainland, to instruct courses, if needed.
Qualifications and Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to create a comfortable environment where people can learn and feel relaxed enough to ask questions;
- Confident in speaking to groups of people and demonstrating first aid skills and protocols;
- Passionate about first aid and passing on the knowledge to others;
- Able to maintain professionalism and provide constructive feedback to students;
- Comfortable with using a computer (for example, PowerPoint) for course delivery and other related administrative tasks;
- Ability to travel out of town on short notice;
- Ability to work independently and on occasional weekend/evening; and
- Previous teaching experience is an asset.
- Preference given to current OFA 1 or OFA 2 instructor.
- Hold a valid OFA Level 2, or equivalent, First Aid certificate for a minimum of 2 years;
- Successfully completed OFA Level 2 (and certified) prior to initial instructor training;
- Current EFI or OFA Level 1 (or equivalent) instructor for at least 1 year;
- Minimum 2 year experience as a first aider at SFA Level +; and
- Taught 8 EFI courses over the 2 years prior to initial instructor training.
