Our Team:


The Thompson Mines Technical Services (MTS) Team is integral to the success of the operations in being a safe and reliable producer.

We aim to design and plan safe, sustainable ore extraction through technical excellence in the areas of geology, mine planning, ventilation, backfill, ground control, drill/blast, and survey control.


The Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a
Mines Survey Technician to join our
Mines Technical Services Team in
Thompson, Manitoba. This is a
permanent position.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Provide underground and surface surveying services in an industrial production environment (topo, heading alignment, stope cavity survey monitoring, check surveys, raises, drone lidar).
  • Perform safety searches as requested in the development headings.
  • Update mine drawings, including plans and sections.
  • Issue prints to associated departments regarding the layout to be excavated, the surveyed control points, excavations approaching other excavated areas or diamond drill boreholes.
  • Complete monthend survey for incentive calculations.
  • Lay out reference lines and rings as required for vertical blasthole mining (VBM) production drilling.
  • Survey collars and breakthroughs on production drilling for quality control.
  • Lay out reference lines for diamond drill holes.
  • Provide borehole and breakthrough warnings.
  • Provide care and control of survey equipment and designated mobile equipment.
  • Report daily surveying activities to the Divisional Supervisor.

About You:


Education:


  • A technical diploma, OR High school diploma with strong skills in math and computer usage and 23 years of experience in an industrial environment, preferably in an underground setting.

Experience:


  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an industrial environment, preferably in an underground setting.

Skills:


  • Sound survey and associated mathematical skills.
  • Experience working in an industrial environment.
  • Demonstrates safe behavior.
  • Demonstrates solid analytical and problemsolving abilities.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and Deswik
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards of work.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization of stakeholder requirements.
  • Robust knowledge of mine survey techniques/standards.
  • Proficient in use and care of survey instruments
