Position Summary


The Youth Initiatives Supervisor will be responsible for engaging and advocating for Seabird Island community members to ensure equitable access to the youth initiatives funding.

This role includes developing and overseeing programs associated with this funding such as the youth camps and the youth council.

The Youth Initiative Supervisor will solicit, and case manage individuals and families involved with this initiative to promote individual and family wellbeing.

The Youth Initiatives Supervisor will also connect their clients with other programs and services such as driver's education, health services, mentorships, and social supports.

The Youth Initiatives Supervisor will be expected to develop strong and healthy relationships with youth and their families so that they can advocate on their behalf.

What you'll do

  • Oversee the youth council.
  • Plan and implement youth camp(s).
  • Plan and implement a youth mentorship program by identifying youthlearners and mentors from the community and matching them for interactions and learning.
  • Connect youth who need counselling/therapy with service workers.
  • Manages the cases of families who want to access outside programs and services to enhance their family wellbeing.
  • Connect youths with necessary and appropriate programs and services both at request and in a proactive/preventative manner.
  • Establish strong, healthy, and appropriate relationships with youths.
  • Serve as a positive role model and support for youth as needed.
  • Record activities and participation to track impacts and trends.
  • Develop and implement evaluation tools.
  • Seek and attend professional development opportunities to grow knowledge of relevant topics and theories.
  • Engage students at Seabird schools and other area schools.
  • Ability to set appropriate boundaries and remain professional.
  • Build a rapport with community resources, organizations, and community members to develop new opportunities for the youth.
  • Ability to engage youth in meaningful authentic discussions to explore topics that are relevant to youth development. (Suicide, sexuality, bullying etc.)
  • Establish strong, healthy, and appropriate relationships with youths as well as a positive relationship with parents and guardians through communication.
  • Engage students at Seabird Island community school as well as other districts.
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your Supervisor, Manager, Director, Executive Director, or Chief & Council.

What you bring

Education

  • Postsecondary degree in social work, child/youth care/human services or another related field is required.

Skills/Experience

  • 3+ years' experience working in youth setting required.
  • Experience with case management.
  • Experience with program/service management.
  • Experience with budget management.
  • Ability to deliver important messages to youth groups/individuals in a manner that is accessible to the audience.
  • Available for varied shifts to accommodate youth availability and activity schedule including days evenings and weekends.
  • Familiarity with Mustimuhw or other charting software would be an ass
