Van-Kam Freightways Ltd. (Van Kam) is one of the largest regional carriers in Western Canada specializing in less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation. With 8 terminal locations across British Columbia, we fulfill shipments to communities within 1-3 days throughout BC and Alberta. Between our own resources and our partner network, our coverage extends beyond Western Canada into the U.S. and Eastern Canada.


Responsibilities:


  • Accurately process and administer payroll for employees on a regular schedule (weekly, biweekly, or monthly), ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Receive invoices from all terminals, code them, get them approved, post and pay them in a timely manner.
  • Enter invoices into the accounting system, ensuring correct coding and appropriate documentation.
  • Process payments to vendors and suppliers via checks, electronic transfers, or other approved methods within agreedupon payment terms.
  • Verify time and attendance records, sick leave, vacation days, and other relevant data for payroll calculations.
  • Issue WI, WCB, ROE, Employment letters as needed.
  • Assist in preparing payrollrelated reports and financial data for internal and external audits.
  • Maintain accurate and uptodate payroll and accounts payable records in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with tax laws, labor regulations, and company policies related to payroll and accounts payable processes.
  • Address payrollrelated inquiries from employees and resolve any issues in a timely manner.
  • General Finance Support and other duties/projects on a as needed basis

Required Qualifications:


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Previous experience with Great Plains is preferred.
  • Have above average keyboard skills, excellent telephone manners and a strong customer service attitude.

Training and Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field is required.
  • Previous experience in Payroll is required.
  • Previous experience in AP is an asset.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of and understanding of the trucking industry.
  • Individuals with AS400 experience will be given preference.
