About the Role:


Based in our
North Vancouver office, the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Program Manager, provides a leadership role in the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive range of employee health and safety programs and services to meet the goals and legal obligations of NHC's British Columbia operations.

NHC's HSE program continues to evolve to support our growing company and expanding range of services, creating opportunities for the HSE Program Manager to provide meaningful and valued contribution.


The position reports to the Principal in Charge of health, safety, and environment and will require coordination with other company owners responsible for branch operations, as well as collaboration with human resources and other staff with deep knowledge of our field programs, physical laboratory operations, and administrative processes.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Plan, develop, implement, coordinate, and update NHC's occupational health, safety, and environment polices, procedures and programs.
  • Develop annual health, safety, and environment plans for BC operations based on a full review of health, safety, and environment related needs (assessment of hazards, analysis of data, audits, changing legislation).
  • Review occupational health and safety legislation, amendments, and best practices to optimize occupational health, safety, and environment programs.
  • Provide advice on health and safety matters, legislative requirements, and best practices in the field.
  • Oversee the training requirements and maintenance of a system for all health, safety, and environmentrelated training records, and assist in the development and rollout of programs.
  • Lead audits to ensure the effectiveness of health, safety, and environment programs (NHC is SAFE certified through the BC Forest Safety Council).
  • Monitor, amend and update health, safety, and environment policies, manuals, and safety documents.
  • Attendance at regular HSE meetings, including monthly HSE Committee, field HSE, and laboratory meetings.
  • Oversight, investigation, and reporting of incidents and investigations, workplace inspections, and worker observations.
  • Promote the safety culture of NHC, including communications, training, and equipment procurement and maintenance.

About You:


You are a mid-level safety professional, well-versed in remote operational deployments with demonstrated experience implementing and leading health, safety, and environmental programs in an operational setting.

Experience in remote, small team, resource-based projects (such as forestry, environmental sciences, geoscience, or civil engineering), and experience mitigating hazards including working around swift water, steep slopes, avalanche terrain, and helicopters will be advantageous.


Required Education, Skills, and Experience:


  • Postsecondary diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field of study.
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience with occupation health and safety management, COR audit, and preferably in engineering and/or geosciences, or a related field such as environmental sciences, forestry, or construction.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety management, applicable federal, provincial, and municipal regulations/legislation, the Occupational Health & Safety Regulation, WorkSafeBC and applicable Human Rights.
  • Experience with accident investigation, workplace inspection and job hazard analysis.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple priorities in a fastpaced, dynamic environment.
  • Collaborative approach with specific attention to details and followup.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem
- solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
