    About this opportunity:

    The Manager of Surface Land Analysts will lead professional and support staff who are responsible for promoting Cenovus's growth strategy by facilitating unimpeded access to Surface Land while ensuring regulatory compliance. This individual must be a strategic problem solver with high-level knowledge of the oil and gas industry and Surface Land's role in relation to the overall business.

    What you'll do:

  • Ensuring consistent policies, procedures, and controls are in place.
  • Providing leadership in department planning initiatives, budgets, work standards and process improvements. Makes recommendations regardinghiring of staff and consultants as required.
  • Establish and lead performance targets in alignment with company goals and objectives.
  • Fosters an environment that supports and improves team performance standards.
  • Conducts performance reviews and appraisals while providing career path direction, coaching and constructive feedback to staff while creating a high performing, collaborative team.
  • Keeps informed and analyzing industry, operational and regulatory trends and requirements, and making recommendations towards efficiency improvement opportunities.
  • Communicating with internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Ensuring that services are provided in acquiring surface rights, maintaining land access, as well as completing all stakeholder and Indigenous consultation, in the areas in which the company operates.
  • Ensuring timely, efficient acquisition and maintenance of surface rights for, but not limited to, surveying, drilling, pipelining, facilities and production operations by the surface analysts.
  • Monitors data standards for the Land and Joint Venture database and record repository while ensuring maintenance requirements and system efficiency is maintained.
  • Who you are:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a leadership role preferably managing large teams.
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Experience within a large integrated petroleum company.
  • Knowledge of Surface Land as it pertains to the oil and gas industry.
  • Knowledge of applicable Government Acts and Regulations concerning the environment and all aspects of surface rights.
  • Knowledge of First Nations consultation requirements.
  • Land experience working within various Canadian regulatory environments.
  • Member of Canadian Association of Petroleum Land Administration (CAPLA) would be considered an asset.
