The Manager, Reinsurance Accounting is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Reinsurance Accounting team including priority setting, training & coaching staff, and playing a leadership role in support of the team's mandate.

The team's primary focus areas include key reinsurance functions around financial reporting, relationship management, and timely settlement of reinsurance business.


The Reinsurance Accounting team is part of the broader Finance team which is a dynamic team that is focused on preparing external financial reporting for our shareholder and regulator, as well as overseeing the company's core financial systems.

You're great at:


  • Lead efforts around preparation of financial statements for our various insurance companies by providing and confirming reinsurance financials & note disclosures in support of reporting to our shareholder, regulator and management.
  • Oversee the maintenance of financial records that support the detailed data, including developing and maintaining financial models, corporate policies, and reconciliations.
  • Lead development and implementation of efficient and reliable processes, including taking into consideration new IT systems
  • Collaborating with crossfunctional teams to ensure timely & accurate reporting of reinsurance accounting data
  • Assist internal and external auditors with documentation and support.
  • Research complex reinsurance transactions and prepare documentation outlining issues and conclusions
  • Perform analysis and prepare projections of reinsurance premiums by line of business and reinsurer
  • Act as a liaison between reinsurers and claims personnel when difficulties arise regarding payment or collection.
  • Provide effective coaching and motivation of staff

You have:


  • Postsecondary education in a financial discipline or related field
  • Minimum 57 years of experience in the Property and Casualty industry
  • Working knowledge of insurance accounting, including premiums, claims, reinsurance, controls, and accounting systems
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage a team
  • Attainment of CPA designation
