Rate of Pay:
$ $28.76 per hour

Reporting to the Manager - Specialized Geriatric Services, the Therapeutic Recreationist - Hospital Elder Life Program Coordinator oversees the daily operations of the Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) including orienting clients and families; assigning appropriate intervention protocols; and recruiting, screening, training, placing, and retaining volunteers.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

***- Degree or diploma in therapeutic recreation or recreation and leisure studies with therapeutic recreation course content (Therapeutic Recreation specialization) or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience in therapeutic recreation programming as it relates to programs offered in varied therapeutic institutional settings
Previous experience in coordinating volunteers, preferably in a healthcare setting and with delivering training programs
Experience working with the elderly

Skills/Abilities:

Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
Ability to develop and deliver presentations, information sessions, and education modules to groups using language appropriate to the audience
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, other SJCG staff, volunteers, clients and families
Ability to work independently, interdependently, and participate as a contributing member of a variety of teams within the workplace to meet program goals and objectives
Strong leadership skills, including the ability to motivate and share skills and knowledge with others and be a role model for volunteers
Demonstrated accuracy, organizational skills, problemsolving and multitasking skills
Ability to use independent judgment and maintain confidentiality of records, actions, and information

Assets:

Ability to communicate in a second language

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
