Rate of Pay:
$ $28.76 per hour


Reporting to the Manager - Specialized Geriatric Services, the Therapeutic Recreationist - Hospital Elder Life Program Coordinator oversees the daily operations of the Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) including orienting clients and families; assigning appropriate intervention protocols; and recruiting, screening, training, placing, and retaining volunteers.


Qualifications:


Education/Experience:

***- Degree or diploma in therapeutic recreation or recreation and leisure studies with therapeutic recreation course content (Therapeutic Recreation specialization) or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience in therapeutic recreation programming as it relates to programs offered in varied therapeutic institutional settings
  • Previous experience in coordinating volunteers, preferably in a healthcare setting and with delivering training programs
  • Experience working with the elderly

Skills/Abilities:


  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations, information sessions, and education modules to groups using language appropriate to the audience
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, other SJCG staff, volunteers, clients and families
  • Ability to work independently, interdependently, and participate as a contributing member of a variety of teams within the workplace to meet program goals and objectives
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to motivate and share skills and knowledge with others and be a role model for volunteers
  • Demonstrated accuracy, organizational skills, problemsolving and multitasking skills
  • Ability to use independent judgment and maintain confidentiality of records, actions, and information

Assets:


  • Ability to communicate in a second language

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
