***:Under the direction of the Wastewater Treatment Foreperson will be responsible for monitoring and controlling the sewage treatment process.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Monitors the sewage treatment process.
- the amount of sludge processed, amount of flow between tanks, digester temperatures, amount of wasting, amount of air used in aeration tanks
- chemical consumption, machinery operating hours
- regularly checks machinery operations and reports mechanical problems to maintenance.
- Controls the sewage treatment process, performing duties, such as, but not limited to:
- transfers sludge between digesters,
- controls flow within the plant, ensuring sludge is treated correctly,
- adjusts the amount of chlorine added at the final processing stage,
- dependent on amount of flow, collects samples for laboratory tests.
- Strictly adheres to Ministry of Environment and health and safety regulations, is working with hazardous chemicals, gases and over open water
- Performs general maintenance duties, such as, but not limited to:
- hoses out tanks, sump holes, scum troughs,
- assists the Plant Maintenance Operator, performing duties such as, regularly
- greasing and oiling equipment and acting as a maintenance helper,
- cleans buildings and equipment,
- cuts grass, weeds, flower beds, paints and shovels snow.
- Performs other duties related to Wastewater Treatment Plant operations, such as, but not limited to:
- records daily weather readings such as temperature, precipitation, wind velocity, to be forwarded to the London Weather Office,
- trains new staff,
- completes a daily time card detailing work done and equipment used.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent as determined by the Corporation and certification as a Wastewater Treatment Operator
- Good physical condition
- Able to work in confined spaces
- First aid training is an asset
- Familiarity with safety regulations
- Interest in wastewater treatment
- Valid Class "G" driver's license
