Give and Take Tree Service is looking for an energetic Junior Climber to join the team. Give and Take Tree Service has been around since 2013. We are a well-established residential and commercial tree service company providing work around the Lower Mainland, based out of Maple Ridge.


We are looking for a Junior Climber to join our team. We have high standards for safety, and work to complete our jobs efficiently and accurately. This work involves a variety of jobs and job sites and the ability to work effectively as a team member, following direction, receiving instructions while adhering to company and industry safety standards and policies. We enjoy an easy going atmosphere with a close-knit and positive team environment. Customer service skills are definitely an asset. We'd like to see 3+ years experience as a groundsperson with about a year or more of junior climbing experience. We'd like to help you become a well-rounded tree worker, learning to prune trees effectively, trim hedges as well as become more comfortable with removing trees, large and small. You'll do best learning by watching experienced climbers, comprehending their strategies and why they do things, taking initiative with your experience level, asking questions when you need guidance or more information. A great attitude and willingness to build on your experience is required. We will encourage you to gain experience and knowledge and if you are interested in becoming a Certified Arborist, we will support and encourage your desire to learn and/or study towards a Certified Arborist.


The jobs are varied and range from standard tree removals and pruning, to felling trees, dangerous tree removals, crane work, rigging, bucket truck work, hedges, emergency work and all things in between.


As a member of the team, you will be comfortable to follow the lead, to handle small jobs and to teach other crew members safe groundwork while adhering to safety and best practice standards.

You will also be keen to learn from the owner and lead climbers, practicing to become more skilled and efficient and introduce new strategies to your repertoire.

Drivers License is required. Air brakes certification is an asset.


If you're interested in becoming a Certified Arborist, we will support and encourage your desire to learn and/or study towards a CA or CUA.


Responsibilities:


  • Demonstrate proper ground crew skills to support the climber and teach others.
  • Learning and implementing to trim, cut, prune, fell and remove and trees of various sizes and hedges proficiently.
  • Practice and demonstrate high safety standards.
  • Learn and demonstrate proper pruning, trimming and rigging skills.
  • Operate a chainsaw safely and proficiently.
  • Recognize and teach proper chainsaw safety and use to ground crew.
  • Assist in teaching ground crew effectively and skillfully on a variety of jobs.
  • Practice and enforce all safety rules, industry and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to follow direction, procedures and standards safely and accurately.
  • Learning to recognize deficiencies and learning to direct team members' actions and procedures, while adhering to standards safely and accurately.
  • Recognizing and assisting in the proper maintenance, preparation and operation of all tools and equipment including hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.
  • Communicate effectively and positively with crews and customers.
  • Learn and assist in managing customer service expectations.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated junior level climbing experience.
  • Great attitude and ability to work in all weather.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Safety orientated.
  • Comfortable working in a team environment.
  • Ability to understand and communicate effectively with the crew, management and customers.
  • A great attitude
  • A current driver's license or Class 5 is required. Air Brakes Certification an asset.
