- Estimate time, materials and equipment required to complete tasks
- Prioritize, organize, and allocate tasks to assigned crew
- Train the crew on OTM Book 7 procedures, performance requirements in the CDMC and Miller Values of Safety, Quality and Integrity
- Act as a point of contact for MTO Authorities and staff in emergencies
- Communicate with authorities on site and liaise with MTO central dispatch to ensure adequate resources are available to maintain public safety on the highways during adverse conditions
- Provide traffic control at the accident scene. Respond to emergencies such as spills, accidents etc. and assist in implementing an emergency plan as needed
- Assist in identifying deficiencies by regular daily patrols of highways and notify the Patrol Supervisor as required. Complete minor repairs to the highway
- Conduct daily circle checks of vehicles, clean and perform minor repairs
- Perform inspections and Quality Control measures to ensure that the jobs meet or exceed the quality specs outlined in the CDMC
- Review and ensure that daily diaries, time sheets, fuel logs etc. are accurately completed and submitted on time
- Conduct regular tailgate talks with the staff to review safe operating policies and practices
- Other duties as assigned
- What You'll Bring:
- DZ license required
- Experience in snow and ice control, emergency response, winter patrol and /or knowledge of OTM Book 7 are strong assets
- Knowledge of highway maintenance, Highway Traffic and Environment acts and legislations preferred
- Supervisory experience in delegating tasks, training and meeting deadlines in a fastpaced environment is essential
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office to manage the reporting requirements of this role and computer skills to navigate weather, equipment data, Miller and MTO work sites
- Flexibility and organizational skills to multitask and manage time in a fastpaced environment with rapidly shifting priorities
- Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) to prepare reports, present tailgate talks etc.
- Willingness to work assigned shifts based on business needs, ability to remain on call after hours and work outside in inclement weather conditions
