Electrical / Mechanical Assembler (EM1)Location:
ALS Geochemistry, North Vancouver
Reports to:
Instrumentation Manager
About the Position:
Working as part of the Instrumentation maintenance team, the assembler is building, testing and helping with manufacturing of company's proprietary devices.
- Assemble and test mechanical and electrical components and assemblies;
- Assemble devices from mechanical, electrical and electronics components to complete functioning unit;
- Assist with and complete builds of various laboratory equipment;
- Assist with development and do modifications of devices under development;
- Testing and inspections of devices, assemblies or subassemblies;
- Perform checks, repairs or manipulation with supporting systems like cooling, gas supply, pneumatic and hydraulic systems when required;
- Electronic/electrical and mechanical fabrication on custom equipment and tools;
- Final assembly packing and preparation for shipping;
- Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring quality;
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
- Other duties as assigned.
- An aptitude for mechanical and electrical systems;
- Ability to read technical manuals and schematics;
- Ability to follow through and complete assigned duties according to deadlines;
- Ability to setup and test systems;
- Ability to use small hand and power tools;
- Experience using measuring tools such as callipers, multimeters, thermometers, data loggers;
- Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail;
- Fluency in speaking and reding English;
- Good communication skills;
- Ability to work independently but be a team player;
- Proficient in computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook;
- Safety oriented;
- High school graduation required;
- Postsecondary education in an electromechanical discipline is preferrable;
- 1 year of experience in the electronics or electromechanical technology related field is preferable;
- Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
- Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
- Ability to stand for a full shift;
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds;
- Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
