About the Pastoral Care Role:

Reporting to the Director of Recreation and Volunteer Programs, the Pastor will be an integral
member of Recreation department and provide the spiritual care component of LTC and Retirement
Home Community. The Pastor will work with other clergy in the local community to provide additional
services to the senior's community.


Wage:


$ Hourly

Qualifications:


  • Have completed or working towards completion of a recognized degree in theology, divinity
or spirituality would be advantageous.

  • A minimum of three (3) years of pastoral care experience.
  • Demonstrated pastor care ability with comprehensive knowledge and appreciation of
ecumenical Christian beliefs, traditions, and spirituality.

  • Possess strong interpersonal, communication, organization, and administrative skills.
  • Have experience and/or willingness in working with seniors and understand LTC Homes
Act/Regulations, MAID, and other applicable Legislation

  • Have experience with IPAC
  • Have effective venting mechanisms and understanding of work/life balance
  • Computer literacy is a requirement. Familiarity with the Point Click Care software is an
asset


Key Responsibilities:


  • Models and promotes the leadership principles and skills of TCMH mission and believes.
  • Maintains positive communication channels and relationships with all management team
members, staff, clients/residents, family members, volunteers, and the general public.

Ensure the delivery of a pastoral care program to residents of all faith traditions:

  • Actively participate in the planning of spiritual life activities and programs offered at
the division.
- conducting weekly Bible study and other small groups as determined

  • Support residents/ families with psychosocial needs and goals for spiritual care
  • Ensure that all requests for pastoral care are responded to in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that appropriate worship opportunities are provided.
  • Ensure that ritual and sacramental needs are met.
  • Assist in planning and offering special services such as Memorial Services,
Communion Services, Christmas Celebration, and Good Friday Service; and

  • Share in the responsibilities of assisting in pastoral duties when called upon during
emergencies, unexpected schedule changes, vacation times and illnesses.


  • Coordinate clergy, pastoral visitors, and volunteers from the religious community.
  • Orient to policies and procedures that affect their visiting; and
  • Provide resources including Resident lists according to home policy
  • Assist residents to stay connected to their home congregation
  • Support an interdisciplinary approach to pastoral care.
  • Provide liaison to other departments such as Nursing, Palliative Care Committee,
Food Service, and Quality Rounds

  • Provide orientation to Pastoral Care Services to other departments as invited.
  • To recognize residents by attending special events such as auxiliary birthday parties
or Welcome Teas.

  • Actively assist with the needs of residents in Palliative Care; and
  • Serve on committees such as Resident Quality Care Committee etc.
  • Develop and maintain procedures to keep records of pastoral activity.
a. To maintain confidentiality of resident information.

  • Maintain resident documentation through Point Click Care in accordance with
legislation; and

  • Assist in developing and administering the department's plan for continuous quality
improvement.


  • Participate in programs and administrative activities of the home.
  • Participate in staff meetings.
  • Participate in regular professional development activities; and
  • Participate in departmental planning meetings when asked.
  • Participate in regular professional continuing education.

Working Conditions:

Considerable standing, walking, and sitting. Substantial time spent with Residents and their loved
ones requiring a high degree of emotional energy and mental alertness. Flexibility in work schedule is
required. Exposure to resident elements through regular interaction and contact with the residents.
Exposure to outside elements through attendance at meetings and educational sessions.
