We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of 3rd Class Power Engineer within our Chemical Manufacturing Facility located in Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada.


POSITION SUMMARY** - To operate and monitor all utility equipment located outside the boiler house which includes: cooling towers, refrigeration systems, air compressors, steam condensate collection systems, waste water and process water plants and emergency diesel generators in the two resin manufacturing areas. Relieve Operating Engineers Third Class and Operating Engineers Second Class as needed for vacation and illness. Conduct daily work activities in support of HSE objectives and policies. Use personal accountability to assist with carrying out duties, responsibilities and authority as defined in HSE programs, practices and procedures. Understand HSE policies and programs. Work safely, with respect to health and environmental requirements. Follows the procedures for the ISO 9001 Program to meet OCC's quality policies of conducting business that exceed the expectations and needs of our customers in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.


OXY NORTH/WEST AREA

  • Operates a variety of Utilities equipment including but not limited to water treatment, waste water, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, compressors and pumps.
  • Operates diesel generators for emergency power.
  • Monitors area fire system for integrity.
  • Works in cooperation with production to maintain operations and processes.
  • Performs waste water testing and adjust as necessary to maintain effluent quality.
  • Responds to system problems and corrects if possible.
  • Maintains information flow to the Shift Engineer and area operating personnel.

WATER/WASTE TREATMENT AREA

Operate water treatment and waste water treatment systems in support of manufacturing operations

  • Operates river water and fire water pumps.
  • Operates water clarification systems including sand and carbon filtration.
  • Operates deionized water trains and RO system.
  • Operates a 1,000,000 gal/day waste treatment plant consisting of primary, secondary and tertiary treatment.
  • Operates the thermal oxidizer weekly for performance checks.
  • Operates diesel generators weekly for testing.
  • Provides support to the Compound operation for their cooling tower operation.
  • Routinely checks all systems of responsibility.
  • Troubleshoots the various unit operations as needed.
  • Responds to computer prompts in the operation of the water treatment and waste treatment units.
  • Responds to upsets in the incoming raw water quality to meet spec limits required by manufacturing.
  • Relieves the 2nd Class Stationary Engineer in the Boilerhouse so the latter can make routine plant inspections (4 hrs/shift).
  • Performs routine water testing for MISA reporting.

BOILERHOUSE & CO-GEN

Assist Stationary Engineer Second Class in operation of all equipment to maintain necessary supply of utilities to the plant

  • Operates the 5.5MW gas fired cogen.
  • Operates instrument air compressors.
  • Maintains water levels in boiler drums.
  • Ensures proper temperature of cooling jackets and oil levels.
  • Ensures uninterrupted operation of all utilities equipment.
  • Safe and efficient operation of all utilities equipment.
  • Ensures all fire equipment is ready for use when required.

General Duties:


  • Prepares necessary reports and logs (upset reports, unusual circumstances).
  • Issues Maintenance Work Orders for equipment repair.
  • Issues "Permission to Start Work" permits.
  • Inputs data into software package for interpretation of performance.
  • Participates in Plant Safet
