About the Role


The Legal, Regulatory and Governance Department in Corus has an exciting opportunity for someone with a legal background who is creative, a team player and passionate about new technology to join our team as a Contract Manager, Technology in our Toronto office.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a collaborative and niche technology law team, and contribute to a fast-paced, dynamic, and rapidly changing media industry.

You will work closely with internal stakeholders across the enterprise with respect to the licensing, development or implementation of new technology products and platforms (including Technology and IT Operations, Strategy and Product Development, and Sales and Advertising).

This role is based in Toronto, Ontario and will report to the Director and Senior Counsel, Technology.


Responsibilities:


As Contract Manager, Technology, you will be responsible for drafting, reviewing and administering various information technology and digital media-related agreements across the Corus enterprise, working closely with other contract managers, and supporting the business objectives of Corus' Technology team and other internal clients to ensure an efficient and effective contracting process.

You will also be actively involved in developing guidelines and other materials, and conducting internal training sessions so that we continue to improve the overall contracting process for our internal clients.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Legal review and drafting, negotiating, and the administration of various technology agreements and related documentation. This may include matters such as software licensing, assignment and novation, product development and service agreements, statements of work, order forms, support agreements, advertising platform and exchange agreements, and nondisclosure agreements;
  • Advising on contractual provisions related to privacy and data protection, data ownership and usage rights, storage, security and transfer protocols, breach notification and response rights and obligations, warranties, termination and liability/indemnity provisions;
  • Assisting in researching and maintaining a record of legislative and legal updates pertaining to technology law, including cybersecurity and data protection law;
  • Participating in meetings related to various crossfunctional projects on behalf of the Technology Law team;
  • Ongoing review of precedent agreements for necessary updates;
  • Organizing and conducting internal training and education sessions on relevant technology law issues and contract management to help build organizational knowledge and capabilities;
  • Maintaining files, including electronically, on a centralized document management system;
  • Other special projects, duties and responsibilities as required.
About You


If you have the following, we'd like to hear from you:

  • LLB/JD or University/College graduate;
  • Minimum 3 years' experience working in technology law and procurement in a legal or contract manager capacity, either at a technology company or in an inhouse capacity at a large corporation or a law firm;
  • Ability to manage complex legal matters in both a lead role and support capacity, with the ability to work independently;
  • Familiar with legal issues relating to privacy and data protection, data ownership and usage rights, cybersecurity, warranties and indemnities, breach of contract and termination, contractual rights and liabilities, due diligence and risk assessment;
  • Experience or familiarity with the media/broadcast industry and digital media/advertising an asset;
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a high volume, complex, deadline driven environment;
  • Practical and businessminded, with ability to provide sound and actionable guidance to internal clients, and balance management of legal and organizational risk alongside business objectives;
  • Collaborative and flexible team player able to pivot quickly to adapt to the changing needs of the Technology Legal team and business environment;
  • Processoriented, with a passion and aptitude for innovation, continuous improvement, and learning new things,
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and time management skills;
  • Superior verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills;
  • Strong computer software experience in a Microsoft Windows environment, including Outlook, Word, and Excel; and
  • A positive attitude, a friendly demeanor, and a customer service mindset, able to deal with c
