Position Summary:


The incumbent will create and deliver the varsity strength and conditioning program in consultation with the FT Athletic Therapy Coordinator, as well as support campus recreation health & fitness program design.

They will also provide acute and chronic athletic therapy care to students (primarily student-athletes), assist in overseeing athletic therapy placement students from external colleges/universities, and assist in the administration and coordination of the Athletic Therapy Clinic.


Key responsibilities:


  • Responsible for the assessment and development of strength and conditioning programs (preseason, inseason, offseason) for all varsity sports and studentathletes at George Brown College, with the major goals of improving athletic performance and reducing athletic injuries.
  • Devises training plans according to sound scientific principles, supervises training sessions, evaluates athletes, maintains athlete records.
  • Conducts an annual needs‐analysis for each sport team in conjunction with the sport head coach.
  • Acts as the content matter expert in the creation and demonstration of training, fitness and healthy lifestyles techniques and activities for Campus Recreation online programming.
  • Ensures Campus Recreation content is accessible, targets various student demographic groups, and/or can be tailored and modified for specific student groups as required.
  • The scope of practice of a Certified Athletic Therapist includes the prevention, immediate care, and reconditioning of musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Acts as an onsite Athletic Therapist for George Brown hosted athletic events oncampus and offcampus (field sports, special events), as well as championship tournaments.
  • Assesses, develops prognoses, and treats a variety of injuries that are athletically related, using different modalities for treatment(s) of injury(s) as required.
  • Assists the FT Athletic Therapy Coordinator in the monitoring and advising of athletic therapy placement students in the field of Athletic Injuries.
  • Monitors equipment and inventory needs inside the Athletic Therapy Clinic and notify FT Athletic Therapy Coordinator of any immediate needs or repairs.
  • Administers and organizes all patient files, medical documents, and other clerical duties associated with the clinics while adhering to and respecting all George Brown College and external privacy of information laws.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements:


  • Fouryear degree in Kinesiology, Physical Education, or Athletic Therapy.
  • Additional certifications: Athletic Therapist Certification (CAT) and Strength and Conditioning Certification (CSCS).
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience in the strength & conditioning and athletic therapy/sports injury fields:
  • Developing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for various demographic populations.
  • Engaging with individuals of various capacities and tailoring programming to meet those needs.
  • Nutritional supplementation and meal planning.
  • Experience in the sports injury field, specifically in a postsecondary environment, an asset.
  • Able to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs and schedules for all types of athletic related injuries.
  • Indepth knowledge in a variety of different sports essential.
  • Staff supervision and staff training an asset.
  • Proficient computer knowledge in Microsoft Office, as well as specialized health services management software (ex. Jane).
