During the ice season, as an Ice Maker at the City of Prince Rupert, your contribution allows for

the opening of our Aquatic Centre, Recreation Complex and Ice Arena. You will utilize your high

degree of maturity and sound judgment to ensure the safe operation of our ammonia refrigeration

plant and connected systems. Your skill and attention to detail in maintaining acceptable ice

conditions and high cleanliness, safety, and sanitation in our facilities will be met with gratitude

from our Prince Rupert Ice Skating and Recreation community and visitors alike. Your positive

attitude and good nature will help build lasting relationships for years.

During the off-season (April - August), you will join the Public Works team and take part in the

physical work of the many spring & summer projects.

**What you'll do
Maintain and operate the refrigeration plant, arena ice and related equipment.

Work evenings and weekends during the ice season.

Maintain and perform minor repairs to the facility and related equipment.

Perform set-up/take-down duties for events.

Supervise facility users, enforcing the rules, regulations, and code of conduct at all events.

Maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Perform routine cleaning/maintenance as directed by the supervisor.

Monitor and assist with the cleaning of facilities.

Semi-skilled maintenance projects (painting, refinishing floors etc.).

Assist with collecting skate rental tickets and sharpening and distributing rental skates to

customers.

Assist with maintaining an organized and clean skate room.

Report hazards and make recommendations to enhance building and equipment functionality.

Assists with monitoring and signing in participants to programs.

Use excellent customer service skills when helping customers.

Adhere to the policies set for in the employee handbook.

Learn about programs and events held at the Recreation facilities to be able to answer questions.

Promote and serve as a goodwill ambassador of the Recreation and Community Services

department to the public and patrons.

Other related duties as assigned

**What you bring
Grade 12 or GED.

  • BC Refrigeration Operator Certificate (Minimum Class 5). _
WHMIS Certification.

Standard First Aid, CPR-C, AED.

Valid BC Driver's license (Class 5) or equivalent.

Experience in ice-making will determine which classification you qualify for.

Experience in operating ice resurfacing and skate-sharpening equipment is an asset.

Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance,

construction and repair activities related to municipal infrastructure.

Skill in operating tools and equipment, such as mowers, tractors, hand tools and gas,

diesel or air-powered tools.

Ability and flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

Ability to work with mínimal supervision.

Ability to follow safe work practices and procedures.

Ability to obtain and maintain a clean Criminal Record Check.
