What you'll do

  • As a Project Manager 1 in BC Hydro's Project Delivery team, you will be responsible for planning and executing of a portion
- of BC Hydro's multi-billion dollar portfolio of generation, transmission and substation projects. The Project Delivery team
- consists of professionals (employees and contractors) with diverse roles and backgrounds, working together with internal
- and external partners to deliver quality projects safely, on scope, on budget, and on schedule for the Province. At any time,

  • Project Delivery is managing over 500 projects in various phases, from early Identification through inservice closeout,
- ranging in cost from $1M to $1B. Up to two (2) positions are available in the Dam Safety & Programs portfolio in our Project- meet demanding schedules.

  • Types of Dam Safety & Programs projects include but are not limited to:
  • Hydro Dam and other water control and conveyance infrastructure projects and projects
  • Transmission substation projects
  • Other capital infrastructure improvement projects integrated into programs within generation and transmission systems
across BC Hydro (e.g., major equipment replacement, cranes, fire alarm systems, coatings, instrumentation and controls,
- physical security improvements, etc.)

  • Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Acts as a Project Manager in Project Delivery for multiple projects with low to medium risk/impact/complexity throughout
the Province.- May act as a Program Manager or Project Manager for projects delivered by External Service Providers.

  • Coordinates and leads large multidisciplinary professional teams and ensures that internal and external resources with
appropriate skill sets are provided. Provides advice, leadership, and guidance to project staff, reviews work in progress and
- assesses completed work for accuracy, required results and quality assurance.
  • Accountable for determining how a Project will be delivered. Develops project plans, including scope, budget, schedule


and assigns project team responsibilities to accomplish project objectives.- Uses strong written communication skills for the development of project documents such as the Project business case.

Uses effective verbal communication skills for delivery of presentations including the Gate Board presentation to support the

  • Project justification and funding approval.
  • Collaborates across business groups at BC Hydro and travels to meet with customers, operations staff, construction
management, Indigenous Groups and stakeholders to identify and evaluate project impacts, risks, opportunities, and
- mitigations.
  • Represents BC Hydro in discussions with Indigenous Groups, customers and other external stakeholders such as
- regulators and government agencies. Secures licenses and regulatory approvals, as required for the projects under their
- management.
  • Develops supply chain strategies and establishes commercial arrangements with consultants and contractors, as required.
  • Represents BC Hydro as the 'Contract Owner' or 'Hydro's Representative' on construction, services and equipment
contracts.

Participates in contract and claim negotiations with suppliers and contractors, as required.- Accountable for the Project Financials; forecasting, monitoring, transactions and closeout.

Monitors Project progress to

ensure the work is carried out in the most cost-effective manner. Reviews and approves financial commitments and
- payments to Financial Authorization Approval Policy (FAAP) limits.
  • Prepares Project reporting including monthly status reporting, special project reports, completion reports and lessons
learned. Accountable for all final Project reports.- Supports BC Hydro Project and Program Management (PPM) compliance across the portfolio and ensures the quality of

project documentation is aligned with the intent of BC Hydro's PPM Practice and reflective of the complexity and risks of the
- project.
  • Manages the full life cycle of the Project within agreed upon scope, timeline and budget, using considerable innovation in
the planning, analysis and execution of tasks and judgment and resolution of unusual problems.- Mode
