    RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
    The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

    Position summary
    The laboratory of Dr. Mallory Downie in the Department of Human Genetics, McGill University aims to identify new genes and genetic risk factors in childhood kidney disease. We do this using bioinformatic techniques such as genome-wide association studies, genetic risk scores, and Mendelian randomization studies applied to large genetic databases and multi-ancestral populations.

    General Duties
    We are seeking a talented postdoctoral fellow with strong quantitative science skills and an understanding of epidemiology, bioinformatics, and/or genomics. Qualified candidates should be passionate about using clinical research to drive discovery with the overall goal of improving clinical care.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

    •Conduct independent bioinformatic experiments on a variety of large genetic datasets,

    •Manage collaborations related to your project with members of the group and other groups,,

    •Establish processes and research methods to enable bioinformatic studies in the lab (eg assist with setting up appropriate computing infrastructure)

    •Support in mentoring and supervising junior trainees, including graduate students,

    •Contribute to the research direction of the lab through writing research proposals and grant applications.

    Education / Experience

    Education: Doctorate Degree
    Field of Study: PhD in genetic epidemiology, bioinformatics, genetics, biostatistics, or computer science.
    Other education considered an asset for this position:

    •Clinicians (MD) with research experience are also encouraged to apply.

    Work Experience:

    •Knowledge of bioinformatic approaches and tools,

    •Experience analyzing large-scale genomic data (including next-generation sequencing and/or genome-wide genotyping datasets),

    •Strong computer programming skills (R/Python preferred).

    •Ability to work independently and with teams.
