  • We are hiring a Full Time, Temporary

Project Controls

Manager (for up to 24 months) position working out of Edmonton, AB.

  • The Major Projects team is accountable for the delivery of key projects for external clients within EPCOR Commercial Services.
  • The Manager, Project Controls is accountable for the advancedlevel analysis and monitoring of project progress which includes scheduling, costing, controls, safety and recovery. This position is also accountable for setting Project Control standards and processes for all types of Commercial Services projects from inception through commissioning, and initial operations. They will be responsible for the preparation of project control strategies for projects under development, and supporting the Project Development processes within Commercial Services.
  • What you'd be responsible for
  • Providing input to the Project Management's plans and directions; ensuring an appropriate understanding of the strategy as related to Project Controls.
  • Developing and implementing a robust project controls plan to manage large construction contracts.
  • Leading the project controls team in the development, implementation, review and continuous improvement of processes and tools to ensure compliance with policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Providing coaching and mentoring to Cost Controllers, Schedulers and Project Managers; providing technical expertise and guidance for diverse projects of all scopes, delivery methods, and size.
  • Developing project related performance metrics (KPIs) using industry benchmark data and professional judgement, and develop analytics in Excel or Power BI to monitor, track, and report performance.
  • Developing standards to be used throughout related projects including managing design, procurement, construction, commissioning, billing, reporting, budget, schedule, safety objectives, and closure to meet or exceed scope.
  • Developing Project Execution Plan templates.
  • Documenting lessons learned over the project lifecycle and communicating the learnings to the project management teams and stakeholders.
  • Assisting Senior Managers and Project Managers in the preparation of monthly project reporting including developing project governance, processes, methods, tracking, and reporting templates and dashboards; as well as analyzing weekly and monthly detailed project reports from contractors.
  • Assisting Senior Manager in the preparation of internal team reporting tools to identify resource requirements for current and future projects.
  • What's required to be successful
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a Technology diploma is required.
  • Project Management training with Project Management Professional designation is desired.
  • Cost management designation is desired.
  • 10+ years of experience in Project Controls or Project Management is required.
  • 10+ years of project management related experience that includes providing highlevel project control support is required.
  • Industryrelated experience in water, wastewater or industrial process systems is an asset.
  • Experience in project controls leadership and ability to develop, control and recover resulting in significant cost and time savings.
  • Knowledge and experience of alternate project delivery; P3 and design build.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of a contractor and owner in project controls context.
  • Knowledge of construction safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of water and wastewater or industrial processes, and their systems engineering design and construction.
  • Advanced level expertise in various project controls tools including MS Project, Primavera P6, Oracle, Excel, SharePoint, Power BI, risk software, and contingency determination, project costing, and recovery tools.
  • Advanced level expertise in document and contract management tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
