Position Purpose:

This position is responsible for the measurement of electrical energy for the purpose of revenue billing.

This involves installation, verification and maintenance of metering installations to meet the requirements as set by the Measurement Canada (MC).

This is a position covered under the Collective Agreement.


Responsibilities:


  • Installation and maintenance of single phase and polyphase meters and metering systems.
  • Changing of meters for meter reverification as per MC.
  • Programming of electronic meters and testing of meters to ensure their accuracy.
  • Setup and support of interval data collection systems (currently MV90).
  • Installation, operation, troubleshooting and support of our Smart Metering infrastructure, including electronic interval meters, related communications equipment and the network management system, as required.
  • Evaluate meter verification crossphase testing results and make recommendations for required changes.
  • Maintaining meter records for MC.
  • Processing and labeling of new equipment received from suppliers; make recommendations as to inventory levels.
  • Potential to temporarily fill role of Sub-Foreman if required.
  • Potential for Customer Service Oncall duty if required.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:


Education, Specialized Knowledge & Experience

  • Minimum grade 12 education.
  • Postsecondary Diploma or Tradesman in electrical field. A graduate of a Community College program in electrical technology (Power or Control) that could lead to registration as a certified engineering technologist is an asset.
  • Able to work on live electrical apparatuses.
  • Skilled in operating a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Experience in customer service with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Maintenance and use of test equipment.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.
  • Valid class G Ontario Driver's License in good standing.
  • Ability to perform essential duties of the position including regular standby duties and the ability to respond to emergency callouts within thirty minutes.
