    The MacPhail School of Energy is the only energy school in Canada, and we are charting a new course with a focus on sustainable energy sources and practices. MacPhail School of Energy provides hands-on, industry-guided training in labs that mimic job site environments, giving students the skills needed to find a rewarding career in the energy sector. The Opportunity Reporting to the Academic Chair of Sustainability, the Instructor in environmental and chemistry sciences supports the School's Sustainability Pod by assisting with the instruction of environment, chemistry, and water related courses at the MacPhail School of Energy.This presents a unique opportunity to join our team and contribute to the continuity and enhancement of our already developed comprehensive portfolio of sustainability programming. We aim to address demands and needs not only at a local level but also regionally and internationally. Your role would involve integrating innovative strategies in applied learning, embracing digital technologies, entrepreneurship, social innovation, and fieldwork, to further elevate our offerings.

    The Role

  • Instruct courses related to environmental technology, chemical laboratory technology, and water programs
  • Assist with the operation of our chemical laboratory facilities
  • Coordinate with both internal and external parties to strengthen our student experience
  • Assist with the development of advanced training materials in environmental sustainability sciences aimed at learner engagement and learner retention
  • Collaborate with the Sustainability pod at MacPhail and the school at large, the team from Applied Research and Innovation Services, and other SAIT schools and departments
  • Collaborate with other instructors on integration of tools and curriculum for applied learning in environmental sustainability
  • Assist the Academic Chair with programing and thought leadership activities
  • Qualifications

  • Minimum of post-secondary education in a related field of chemistry and the environment, graduate studies will be considered an asset
  • Excellent communication skills including technical writing and presentation skills
  • Experience with instruction and competency development will be considered an asset
  • Proven ability to manage multiple responsibilities and tight timelines
  • Skilled at utilizing a consultative approach and building long-term relationships as a collaborator and influencer
  • Comfortable coordinating change and meeting deliverables under pressure
  • Keen eye for detail with a continuous desire to uphold quality and current standards
  • Experience with open-source software and data acquisition tools will be considered an asset
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
