    Description:

    As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

  • Required Qualifications:

    Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

    Additional Required Qualifications:

    Competency in phlebotomy at least 6 months within the last year (may be required to pass phlebotomy skills challenge). Experience in pediatric venipuncture and skin puncture within the last 6 months. Proficiency in data entry and key boarding skills (may be required to pass data entry skills challenge). Experience in performing phlebotomy, data entry/specimen reception, specimen processing and handling, send out, Research/Clinical trials specimen collection and processing, OP lab. Trained in/experience in Commitment to Comfort procedures. Ability to identify learning needs, seek out learning opportunities and professional development courses to assist in achieving goals. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain collaborative working relationships. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Training and experience in Epic within the last year. Proficiency in Microsoft office and Windows based programs.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Experience in a Calgary urban hospital Pre-Analytics dept within the last year. Ability to manage workflow in a high volume Pre-Analytical department. Experience interpreting workflow visuals and ability to respond to meet turnaround times. Strong problem-solving and organizational skills. Certifications: CSMLS, IATA, First Aid, CPR level C, TDG, WHMIS. Training or supporting documentation in customer service, personal leadership, and/or change management.
