Human Resource Coordinator

The Position


Reporting to the Chief People Officer, this position is a generalist human resource position that will research, analyze and coordinate as part of the human resource team to deliver several key functions within human resources including staffing and recruitment, compensation, classification, workforce engagement, development, performance and human resource compliance and risk management.

The Human Resource Coordinator provides education and consultation advice on the interpretation of policies and internal human resource activities to STC management, supervisors, and staff; the development of job descriptions, postings, policies, procedures, and other human-resource-related documentation.

This position will present information to staff and management and assist in leading human resource projects throughout the organization.

The position will provide excellent internal customer service; proactively support the building of a positive work culture; deal with a high degree of sensitivity to confidential issues and take appropriate measures to ensure integrity is maintained.

Familiarity with technology to support the human resources function.


Responsibilities:


  • Conducts research and analysis in support of best practice approach to human resource programs, objectives, and/or more efficient ways of working, make recommendations on creative and flexible solutions in all areas of human resources.
  • Provides operational HR services.
  • Ensure HR programs and services are compliant with established policies and procedures and applicable provincial/federal/First Nation laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines.
  • Liaises as a single point of contact for both the managers and staff and contributes to the delivery model for STC HR shared services.
  • Coordinate with the hiring manager in preparing offer letters and employment agreements to ensure accuracy. Prepare documentation for changes to the employment agreement.
  • Supports cultural and behavioural changes needed in the organization, in the context of decentralized recruitment, strategic HR partnership approach, and utilizing a competency framework.
  • Assist with the preparation, coordination, and delivery of talent attraction and retention strategies including new hire orientation/onboarding processes and exit interview data management.
  • Coordinate, organize, and track performance management/learning and development human resource initiatives
  • Responsible for ensuring criminal record checks are completed for all employees, contractors, and practicum students and ensuring any relevant criminal history is reviewed with the hiring manager.
  • Supervise students, interns, or volunteers for the department. Support efforts on providing opportunities to students, interns, or volunteers to gain work experiences, such as the Canada Summer Jobs program or other practicum placements.
  • Work closely with Finance to communicate and provide documentation for new hires, terminations, and any other changes in employees' details or employee changes in pay.
  • Supports development and implementation of employee engagement initiatives
  • Prepare and maintain reports and tools related to specific HR projects
  • Compiling and analyzing data for reports and special projects and documentation of HR processes
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of job classifications, job descriptions, and salary grids.
  • Assists in ensuring that evaluations are carried out for all staff according to policy.
  • Assists in facilitating the staff complaint and grievance procedures.
  • Assists in the development and delivery of an employee recognition program.
  • Assist the managers and supervisors with HR Management capacity building & coaching techniques and facilitates training sessions related to specific HR programs
  • Advise management about any recurring issues and problems
  • Keep abreast with new trends and advancements in the human resources field
  • Assist with various adhoc HR projects
  • Perform other related duties as defined and assigned by the reporting Director or designate on an as and when required basis.

Education and Experience:


  • A completed bachelor's degree in human resource management, business administration, or a related field. A CPHR designation is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience providing consulting services managing staff; providing mentorship, coaching, and performance feedback with the ability to motivate others in a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience working within a governance structure in a community development capacity with First Nations; familiarity with First Nations culture, history is considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:


  • Knowledge and understanding of federal and provincial employment legislation, (Labour Code, Human Rights Code, Pay Equity, OH&S) acts, regulations and standards.
