DESCRIPTION:


Reporting to the Production Manager, the Packaging Supervisor leads a team of employees that are responsible for packaging the highest quality of beer possible within the Bottling, Canning and Kegging operations at the Brewery.

They are responsible for coordinating all resources related to labour, material and equipment to ensure production schedules are attained in a safe and timely manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise the activities of approximately 625 employees in the areas of canning, kegging, bottling, sanitation and repack in accordance with established work instructions to meet scheduled production requirements in a safe manner
  • Maintain a safe and healthy workplace through regularly conducting safety audits, delivering tool box talks and facilitating team safety meetings.
  • Work with Health and Safety to establish and implement new or revised processes as necessary and lead the incident investigation process for injuries, near misses and property damage
  • Monitor operations to ensure quality checks are performed and production meets Sleeman's quality standards. Resolve quality issues in collaboration with Quality Assurance Department
  • Work with managers and peers to recommend changes to and implement regional packaging processes and procedures
  • Identify training needs for team and work with HR and the management team to ensure appropriate training is delivered and the effectiveness is measured
  • Provide performance management for direct reports, including developing strategies to manage absence and discipline, working collaboratively with human resources as necessary
  • Provide support and backup for Maintenance, Brewing and Warehouse supervision
  • Ensure housekeeping and 5S standards are maintained in the department
  • Contribute to the implementation of the food safety strategy and supervise activities of hourly employees to verify compliance with Food Safety and quality requirements
  • Communicate daily to production staff up to and including senior management of any related issues
  • Support the deployment and management of various continuous improvement initiatives to improve working conditions in the areas of Safety, Quality and Delivery
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements:


  • Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing in a unionized environment, including at least 2 years in a supervisory position
  • Secondary school education or equivalent
  • Experience in bottling, canning, and kegging operations considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of quality assurance and good manufacturing practices
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to create reports and deliver presentations
  • Demonstrated skills in facilitation, employee engagement, attendance and performance management, and safety enhancement
  • Ability to prioritize and balance between short and long term plans within a fastpaced environment
  • Computer skills with ability to use software such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word); ability to use maintenance management software considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of occupation health and safety act and other related legislation/regulations
  • Acceptable criminal record check
Schedule

  • Rotating shifts 2week rotation
  • Days (6am2pm), Afternoons (2pm10pm), Nights (10pm6am)
Working Conditions

  • Spends approximately 60% of the time working in manufacturing environment and approximately 40% in an office environment
  • Travel may be required
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts
  • Required to wear PPE while in manufacturing environment
