The Supervisor, Maintenance Services is part of the team responsible for the overall maintenance of Division-owned buildings, grounds and associated infrastructure.
Also, the incumbent is responsible for the implementation of a broad range of maintenance and improvement projects including supporting design work, identifying scope of work, estimating, assisting in the tendering process, scheduling, supervising, and administering contracts.
The job has full supervisory responsibility for a team of Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) staff and oversees the work of a variety of external contractors working on specific maintenance and improvement projects.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervision and leadership
- Lead, direct, assign and evaluate work performed by a team of AUPE staff
- Participate in the disciplinary process and with dispute resolution issues
- Participate in recruitment and selection of staff
- Assign and evaluate work performed by external contractors
- Work closely with department and Division staff in forecasting and scheduling longterm projects to aid in sustainability of Division facilities
- Meet with principals to discuss IMR and CMR wants and needs
- Develop and submit detailed reports on proposed projects including maps, pictures and estimates
- Collaborate in the determination of project approvals
- Develop, participate in and lead unit meetings
- Provide input into short
Project and service delivery
- Collaborate with team on multiple maintenance and improvement projects
- Liaise with Division staff to minimize disruptions to schools, Division business, operations and programs
- Provide status reports including results feedback
- Monitor completion of maintenance, IMR, schooltopay projects, and portable moves to ensure on time completion and within budget
- Identify need for changes in estimates, processes or practices
- Review and investigate current operations to improve efficiency by identifying ineffectiveness in equipment and buildings
- Consult with department staff to ensure school requirements are met during design and construction phases
- Collaborate with Division consultants and Educational Planning staff to ensure scope completeness
- Respond to enquiries by providing partners with advice, information, direction and guidance
- Provide technical guidance to Custodial Services, department and Division staff
- Communicate timelines, progress reports and change orders
- Provide a response to solve the issue in timely manner
- Ensure work is performed within Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and regulations, Building Code legislation, and the Division Health and Safety Program, including incident investigation, to reduce and eliminate risks
- Respond to emergency calls and deploy appropriate staff to address
- Ensure calls related to fire, flood, breakin, mechanical failure, and vandalism are addressed
- Resolve the emergency and minimize the impact on provision of educational services
- Manage financial aspects of maintenance and improvement projects including,
- Review and approve vendor invoices, estimates and progress claims
- Monitor budget, review and approve staff expense claims
- Prepare tender documents and collaborate with Procurement Services in the process
- Participate in rotational afterhours oncall schedule
- Participate in special events and celebrations
- Assist supervisors with peak workloads and during absences
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and Experience

_Journeyman certification in at least one of the building trades or a related field is required, plus five (5) years of directly related experience which includes supervisory experience, is preferred_:
