About the Opportunity:

The Referral Clerk is the initial contact that patients and families have with the Nova Scotia Women's Choice Clinic.

The Referral Officer is accountable to the patients as well as the physicians, clinic manager and nurses on the unit.

The position is an integral part of the team.

It is important that quick and timely access to a nurse triage coordinator, diagnostic imaging tests, lab requisitions access and appointments are available for patients.

This service is time sensitive and appointments need to be coordinated quickly.

The Referral Clerk must be comfortable with the sensitive topic of medical and surgical abortions and ensure any communications with the patient and/or family reflects a caring and compassionate approach.

The Referral Clerk will complete initial patient intake, register clients, rebook return appointments, book testing, communicate with other health care providers, and fax prescriptions to pharmacies.


About You:

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Medical Office Administration Program plus 2 years' experience in related field
  • Medical Terminology certificate required
  • Experience in an ambulatory care setting
  • Well developed organizational and priority setting skills, able to multitask
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in PHS, STAR, One Content an asset
  • Knowledge of diagnostic testing procedures and availability throughout the province
  • Advanced knowledge of hospital based computer programs and able to work in a network environment
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to operate in a compassionate and supportive manner with patients
  • Previous experience working with clients who may be upset or distraught an asset
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
  • Judgement and ability to appropriately handle confidential information
  • Experience managing crisis situations
  • Problem solving skills
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours:

Permanent, Part Time (40%); 28 hours bi-weekly


Compensation and Incentives:

$ $23.14 hourly
