The Manager, Bands will help to continually improve the Calgary Stampede Showband, Showriders and Outriders programs, developing strong youth for a stronger community.


Scope of Position


Reporting to the Manager, Community Learning & Engagement, the Manager, Bands will work with program coordinators, designers, parents, members, volunteers, and community partners, to lead and direct the vision and operation of the Calgary Stampede Showband, Showriders, and Band of Outriders.

This is a leadership role, with both strategic and operational responsibilities.


The Calgary Stampede Showband is a premiere performance ensemble with 140 members, ages 16 to 21, from Calgary and the surrounding area.

With over 200 annual performances, the program offers diverse opportunities to develop performance, musicianship, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

The Calgary Stampede Showriders are a unique musical ride team and mounted colorguard for youth ages 14 to 21, providing opportunities to develop individual and group horsemanship skills.

The Band of Outriders is an energetic, forty-piece ensemble, comprised of Showband alumni and other musicians from the Calgary area, and are known for their diverse repertoire and fun-loving persona

Responsibilities
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Arts Program Management_
  • Effectively manage the business and build the teams of our highperformance marching arts and equestrian youth programs, including translating strategy into action across large teams
  • Ensure the successful operational execution of all rehearsals, performances, and events, including Stampede Week, yearround community performances and touring activities.
  • Budget development and management to ensure the best use of resources to support effective program delivery, impact, sustainability, and strategic growth
  • Leadership_
  • Foster a purposedriven culture of excellence and commitment to youth and community impact, through a positive and strong presence as a leader to staff, students, and volunteers
  • Provide direction and strategic leadership to employees, contractors, and volunteers to deliver programs in alignment with the Calgary Stampede Foundation's strategic plan.
  • Guide, support, and mentor instructional staff and members towards personal and ensemble excellence.
  • Stakeholder and Community Relationships_
  • Build and foster effective relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholder groups in complex organizational environments to advance program objectives
  • Act as a public and positive ambassador for the Calgary Stampede and Stampede Foundation within the Calgary community and abroad.
  • Develop and lead all recruitment, marketing, and partnership strategies to increase ensure program sustainability and increase community awareness
  • Impact for Youth_
  • Create an environment for youth to grow and thrive, fostering a culture of commitment to safety, wellbeing, belonging, development, and excellence
  • Support the overall success of all CSF youth programs including safety and wellness practices, educational direction, strategic development, and community engagement.
  • Effectively and positively coach youth towards high levels of achievement in individual and group performance

  • Capture, create, and share a clear vision for excellence in competitive marching arts and commercial productions, and engage and mobilize the team to bring the vision to fruition.
