    Are you passionate about engineering and railway transportation? Do you enjoy being at the heart of operations, working on various systems and equipment? We are seeking a mechanical engineer who will play a key role within a versatile team, aiming to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the mechanical systems in our train fleet.

    Your primary mission will be to extend the lifespan of our railway equipment, ensuring passenger safety and the dependability of our rolling stock.

    You will be responsible for implementing configuration changes in our passenger cars and locomotives, as well as in our refurbishment programs, drawing upon theoretical knowledge, industry standards, and your practical experience.


    What are the responsibilities of a mechanical engineer at VIA Rail?


    • Prepare technical documentation (BOM, drawings, 3D models, procedures, technical specifications, etc.);
    • Optimize the performance and reliability of mechanical systems, identify the root causes of failures, and recommend design improvements;
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to determine maintenance needs and update maintenance plans;
    • Ensure that safety aspects of the system are considered throughout the design process;
    • Serve as a liaison with contractors, workshop personnel, and other groups;
    • Evaluate technical information submitted by consultants, contractors, manufacturers, and suppliers and participate in acceptance testing

    Requirements :

    • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering;
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role;
    • Registered member of the ``Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec``;
    • Practical experience in mechanical engineering, encompassing project engineering, component and system creation, analysis of technical issues (mechanical and electromechanical), innovative solution formulation, integration of new technologies, and preparation of estimates within an industrial context;
    • Experience with concepts of system reliability and maintenance programs;
    • Proficiency in CAO software, SolidWorks, AutoCAD;
    • Strong command of the Microsoft Office suite;
    • Excellent ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing (English and French);
    • Knowledge of components within rolling stock systems, such as doors, stepboards, air and water conduits, etc. (an asset).
