ABOUT COOLIT SYSTEMS INC.
Founded in Calgary, Alberta in 2001, CoolIT Systems is the leading Direct Liquid Cooling technology provider for data centers, supercomputers, and desktop computers. We design and manufacture solutions used by the largest tech companies globally.
Recognized as one of "The Americas' Fastest Growing Companies 2023" by Financial Times and honored with the Deloitte Fast 50 Clean Technology award in 2022, as well as the Deloitte Fast 500 distinction in both 2021 and 2022, CoolIT's rapid growth is capturing global attention.
As demand for generative AI, high performance computing and cloud solutions rapidly expands, there has never been a more exciting time to join our team.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Role:
CoolIT Systems, Inc. is hiring a full time Test Team Lead - PCL/Mechanical to oversee components as well as passive coldplate loops testing and qualification activities at CoolIT. You will be responsible for developing test plans and procedures. You will also be responsible for leading a team of test engineers and technicians. Additionally, you will be performing root cause analysis and presenting findings to internal and external teams when needed.
Reporting to Senior Manager (Test and Qualification), this is an excellent opportunity for an independent and experienced technical lead who strives for testing excellence and wants to take part in the technical revolution of liquid cooling.
Responsibilities:
Lead and mentor a team of test engineers and technicians responsible for validation and qualification of passive cold plate solutions and rack-level liquid cooling hardware.
Plan and execute comprehensive test strategies and qualification plans to meet internal requirements and customer defined standards.
Drive qualification of passive cold plates, rack manifolds, and fluid distribution components across multiple coolants, covering thermal performance, fluid dynamics, reliability, and mechanical integrity.
Define and execute stress, reliability, and durability test campaigns including HALT, thermal cycling, temperature stress, pressure, flow, vibration, mechanical load, and leak testing based on risk and field-use conditions.
Review designs, materials, and specifications to identify technical risks, define mitigation strategies, and recommend design improvements to prevent field failures.
Detect design and manufacturing defects through structured testing and data analysis; perform root cause analysis and support corrective actions.
Verify mechanical integrity, sealing performance, and thermal performance for liquid cooling products under realistic operating and stress conditions.
Collaborate closely with design, reliability, manufacturing, and supplier teams to drive design-for-test and design-for-reliability throughout the product lifecycle.
Present technical findings and qualification results to internal leadership and external customers; participate in technical reviews and project meetings.
WHO YOU ARE:
Basic Qualifications:
BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
5+ years of relevant industry experience in thermal-fluid systems, liquid cooling hardware, or electromechanical testing, including 2+ years in a technical leadership or test lead role.
Strong fundamentals in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermo-fluid behavior.
Hands-on experience testing and qualifying mechanical and electromechanical components.
Proven experience executing stress, reliability, and durability testing.
Solid understanding of failure mechanisms in thermal-fluid hardware, including fatigue, creep, corrosion, erosion, material compatibility, sealing performance, and joint integrity.
Working knowledge of materials behavior in liquid cooling environments (polymers, elastomers, metals), including aging, chemical compatibility, and thermal degradation.
Familiarity with relevant industry test standards (ASTM, IEC, ISO) and applying them to build robust qualification methodologies for data center liquid cooling products.
Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks (or equivalent) for test fixture design, failure analysis, and test setup definition.
Experience leading cross-functional validation efforts with design, reliability, materials, and manufacturing teams to drive design-for-reliability improvements early in development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with data center liquid cooling systems.
- Familiarity with rack-level cooling infrastructure such as manifolds, hoses, quick disconnects, and fittings.
- Background in thermal testing.
Skills:
Ability to manage multiple test programs, priorities, and timelines effectively.
Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to guide and develop engineers and technicians.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, especially for failure analysis and root cause investigations.
Clear and professional communication skills for presenting technical content to diverse stakeholders.
