    Description

    Your Opportunity:

    The MRT Mental Health Crisis Clinician acts as a fully contributing member of an interdisciplinary crisis intervention, stabilization and assessment team. The Clinician is responsible for providing specialized mental health assessment and consultation services for clients who are experiencing acute mental health issues. The Clinician works closely with psychiatric emergency staff and community partners to ensure stabilization of immediate crisis and facilitate a person's appropriate involvement in post crisis treatment services. The MH Clinician conducts mental health assessment for the purpose of contributing to a mental health diagnosis and to inform treatment planning. MH Clinicians are responsible for providing mental health assessments, therapeutic interventions, referrals and advocacy. MRT is the core team responsible for psychosocial response in the event of a disaster or mass casualty event. The MH Clinician must be able to provide psychological first aid and other stepped care responses when deployed by ZEOC. The Clinician provides input to patient care planning and to the team's clinical decision-making related to psychosocial factors, barriers and dynamics. Critical clinical decisions of life-threatening proportions are made on a frequent basis in order to assure the safety of clients and the community as well as to plan appropriate assessment and treatment follow-up. The MH Clinician must make such decisions spontaneously and independently.

    Description:

    As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.

    Required Qualifications:

    Completion of one of the following programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

    Additional Required Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

    Awareness of community agencies and resources for addiction and mental health clients (both inside and outside of AHS) an assetTraining in critical incident stress management preferred.
