About the Position:


Reporting to the Assistant Director, High Performance Sport, the Head Coach is responsible for creating an environment conducive to the development of student-athletes in a University setting and lead the Varsity Program in a manner that is consistent with the values of Carleton University and in accordance with the Athletic Department's Code of Conduct.


Key roles and responsibilities of the position include:

  • Coaching the women's interuniversity (Ravens) rugby team, including the direction and operation of all training and competition.
  • Student athlete recruitment, mentoring, development, and retention for women's rugby program.
  • Recruiting and supervision of rugby support staff, including assistant coaches, managers, and student leaders.
  • Assist in the creation and management of an annual budget for women's interuniversity rugby, including participation in revenue generating activities that meet the program's financial objectives.
  • Leading initiatives to engage and foster relationships with the alumni and community.
  • Assist in the creation of community programs such as, Junior Ravens Rugby program and oversee the operations of the program.


The Head Coach will act in support of, and in accordance with, the goals and objectives of the Department of Recreation and Athletics and Carleton University as they relate to educational development and the values of equity, diversity and inclusion.

The position is a full time 4-year contract within the Non-Union employee group.

The total compensation and package includes:

annual salary, competitive extended health and dental benefits, and sick leave, pension and unique perks such as tuition benefits.


Qualifications:


The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Expertise and accomplished coaching at a high level such as university or college;
  • Leadership and accomplishment for this type of role;
  • Experience in building and managing people to reach their full potential as individuals and as a team, most importantly managing studentathletes in terms of their academics, athletics and dealing with issues
  • Knowledge of both the university and the Canadian sport system;
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a part of a team;
  • Integrity a role model for students. Emotionally intelligent and a mentor and a motivator
  • Ability to foster relationships with alumni, academic units, university staff, colleagues, students, community associations
  • Superior interpersonal skills including strong studentathlete centered focus;
  • Superior listening skills, consultative in implementing decisions;
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills

Education and Certification:


The above is normally acquired through the completion of a university degree, the NCCP Coaching Certification Program, with a minimum of five years coaching experience and proven success at a high performance level.
