    POSITION TYPE FULL-TIME

    The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Métis Community Justice Worker position within our Métis Justice Institute Department located at the MMF Thompson Regional Office in Thompson, MB. Reporting to the Métis Justice Institute Director, this position will be responsible for the delivery of a community-based alternative for court proceedings by receiving diversions from the Manitoba Justice Prosecutions.

    Job Duties/Competencies:

  • Assist community to develop and implement justice initiatives;
  • Attend court sittings as required to assist clients with court appearances on program progress and completion;
  • Screen case files and accept case referrals;
  • Maintain proper case files and fulfill reporting requirements;
  • Assist in program evaluation and research analysis;
  • Link Métis offenders with services offered by MMF departments and other mainstream agencies;
  • Assess the crime and related problems of the community and evaluate the capacity of the community to implement justice initiatives.
  • Skills and Qualifications:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Aboriginal Self-Government, Law Enforcement, Restorative Justice & Conflict Resolution or Correctional Officer Training;
  • Experience in corrections or related field in a direct social service delivery capacity;
  • Previous experience in community mobilization;
  • Previous experience in case management and needs assessments;
  • Ability to work with non-voluntary clients;
  • Ability to conduct one-on-one interviews and formulate disposition plans with advisory group;
  • Knowledge of computer word processing and spreadsheet programs;
  • Knowledge of Provincial and Federal legislation, court procedures and diversion an asset;
  • Knowledge of community resources and services an asset;
  • Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
  • Clear Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Criminal Record Check required;
  • Knowledge of Métis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle.
