Our team is made up of more than 420 staff, including expert counsellors and support workers who provide compassionate, client-centered care to youth experiencing homelessness, families and children impacted by trauma, victims of domestic violence, and other vulnerable people from an evidence-based, trauma-informed lens. The Vital Connections Program is a partnership between Family Services of Greater Vancouver and the City of New Westminster. The purpose of this position is to deliver counselling to older adults in New Westminster, to participate as part of a community resource team and to ensure that the administrative expectations of the agency and program are met.   • Work Hours: 14 hours per week Please note: **There is a possibility of expanding to 21 hours per week in combination with our posted Trauma Therapist position #33-23 (providing counselling to families in New Westminster for 7 hours/week). If one therapist was hired for both positions they would have access to our valued FSGV regular employee benefits including health and welfare program after 3 months of work and pension after 12 months of employment.   • Master's Degree in Social Work, Counselling or Clinical Psychology
  • Current registration with a regulatory body: RSW or RCC
  • Specialized training in Gerontology and Family Systems an asset.
  • Specialized training in trauma therapy an asset.
  • Minimum of three years clinical practice experience with older adults.
  • Experience in individual, couple, family and group counselling
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of developmental stages of people between the ages of 55 and 95 and of common presenting problems connected to these stages of life.
  • Family systems theory and interventions, as they pertain to clinical work with older adults.
  • Trauma theory and interventions as they pertain to clinical work with older adults.
  • Proficiency in individual, couple, family and group counselling with older adults
  • Proficiency in crisis, short-term and longer term counselling with older adults
  • Proficiency in psychoeducation with older adults.
  • Proficiency in engagement with older adults.
  • Ability to work well both independently and as a member of a professional team.
  • Ability to consider and construct practices which acknowledge and incorporate the experiences of persons who are marginalized on the basis of gender, race/ethnicity, economic status, language, culture, age, disability, sexual orientation/identity, and/or gender identity.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients
  • Excellent time management, self-management, and planning skills; self-motivated with professional presentation; punctuality

  • Successful completion of criminal record check
