    Job Summary

    This Technical Writer will be IPG Photonics Canada Inc.'s knowledge management expert. This role is responsible for conducting a wide range of documentation activities for the hardware and software components of our beam delivery and quality monitoring solutions. The successful candidate will have accountability in an extremely fast-paced environment working closely with product design, software and applications engineers to bring high-technology products to market. In addition, the candidate will use their writing skills to help fulfill technical and financial reporting requirements ( SR&ED). This is an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology (literally) and directly support the company's strategic direction for servicing e-mobility, commercial spaceflight and other advanced manufacturing challenges.

    Job Functions

  • Be the central point of knowledge management for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Define and create product manuals for IPG Photonics peripheral devices that accomplish the following:
  • Effectively communicating the function, capability and operational requirements of IPG's products.
  • Complies with all relevant industry standards.
  • Work directly with Applications Engineers to obtain in-depth technical comprehension of product descriptions and functionality
  • Create marketing and communication materials to promote the value proposition of our products and services. Distribute to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work with Technical Product Ownership, Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance to prepare and publish client-facing product documentation and literature that is captivating, informative and easy to understand.
  • Create and package technical marketing content via various media channels (digital and print).
  • Support customer success strategies through organization and centralization of key technical support knowledge.
  • Support funding initiatives by writing technical and financial reports required for SR&ED and other government programs.
  • Create templates for User's Manuals, Service Manuals, Application Notes, Service Bulletins and other documentation as needed.
  • Prepare application notes and service bulletins as required.
  • Determine appropriate software and media to accomplish tasks as necessary.
  • Requirements

    About you

  • You're an excellent communicator who has the aptitude to learn advanced technical concepts and then teach and inspire customers and stakeholders.
  • You have demonstrable written and verbal communication skills.
  • Technology is your friend, you are comfortable learning new software packages and have experience with Adobe graphics or similar software.
  • You love to build and create new things and solve technical problems along the way.
  • You have experience writing online help material, documenting product information, and writing training manuals or working as a technical trainer.
  • Collaboration and teamwork come naturally to you and you have demonstrable experience being part of a high-performing team.
  • As a self-starter you can work under minimal supervision and aren't afraid to spearhead new initiatives in knowledge management.
  • Growth excites you as does the chance to see your work have a direct impact on the success of our organization.
  • You have a post-secondary technical education in engineering/physics or a related field or supplementary work experience.
  • Strong preference will be given to candidates with a background in engineering or physics or industrial automation with experience in copywriting, communications or creative writing. Candidates with great communication skills and experience in technical knowledge management systems will also be considered.
