    Job Summary

    The Senior Manager Mechanical, Locomotive is responsible for managing and overseeing a major locomotive maintenance and repair facility.

    The role is accountable for understanding the needs of internal customers and the functions goals as well as providing strong leadership and productivity focus.

    The incumbent uses depth experience and knowledge of best practices in order to establish a clear vision and goals for employees.

    Main Responsibilities

    • Analyze data and identify opportunities for improvement
    • Create lean processes that drive optimal productivity and cost effectiveness
    • Improve service and support for demand and scheduled repairs
    • Establish a strong culture of safety and loyalty
    • Supervise First Line Supervisors, hourly employees and ensure Mechanical work is performed within CN and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) standards
    • Handle day-to-day issues, along with hourly performance issues including conducting investigations, taking appropriate steps to correct performance issues, and responding to grievances
    • Handle budgets, workforce productivity and headcount within CN policies and guiding principles
    • Operate in conjunction with appropriate collective bargaining agreements
    • Formalize work activity processes and coordinate changes and enhancements with staff and Transportation Department peers
    • Develop and implement action plans and goals for supervisory staff and monitor development to ensure continued improvement
    • Provide technical expertise as necessary in support of mechanical operations
    • Assist with various projects
    Working Conditions


    The role is primarily performed indoors but may have periods of outdoor work in various types of weather and environmental conditions.

    The incumbent must be available to work shifts and weekends based on construction project requirements. The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences.

    Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and complex situations.

    The role requires occasional travel (up to 25%), which may include overnight stays away from home based on territory requirements.

    Requirements
    Experience

    Mechanical

    • Minimum 7 years of management experience in a unionized large equipment diesel repair shop
    o Minimum 3 years of experience managing large budgets

    o Experience in a highly regulated environment

    o Railway industry experience**Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

    Education/Certification/Designation

    • Post-Secondary Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering
    • Six Sigma Black Belt Certification
    • Valid Driver's Licence
